Brandy and ginger wine here, and possibly some turkish delight. Today's film was 'the big sick' which I thoroughly recommend, although it does remind you about getting older when Holly Hunter is playing the mum of the woman in her mid 20s.

Holly Hunter was excellent in Jackie which (despite including Carice van Houten) was a good watch.

You can’t beat a decent bit of reminiscing about cystitis.

Apparently.

Good morfternoon.

(Thanks to adam who has reminded me that I've got an unopened box of Turkish Delight knocking around here somewhere.)

Disabled blue badge holders, parents of children staying overnight and staff working at night will get free parking
Does anyone live near a hospital that charges blue badge holders? Ours doesn't. I'm not against some uniformity of who does and doesn't get charged, just trying to assess whether this is meaningful or not.

I see that Lisa Nandy has visited Ashfield to "listen" to the voters there.

OK then, she has "listened" - often to people who were obviously just parroting what they had seen on the TV or in the papers.

Now what?

Yes, I noticed her very cerebral "we must listen etc, etc" stating the bleedin' obvious spiel. I also saw that she was the Guardian's featured front-page Christmas Labour Party leader contender.

Also the (not at all unexpected) dark mutterings about Ed Miliband's General Election review\inquiry.

Bit of a kiss of death to be "Labour's next leader" in the Graun, on recent form.

Evening all. Still feel a bit shaky but enjoyed watching the new version of Worzel Gummidge - the last 5 minutes of the second one must have made the usual suspects spit out their beer.

Oh, and IDS is to get a knighthood apparently...I'm wondering of this is a softening up exercise for who might be next.

Ah! I see that RogerOThornhill has popped up in the cast list. I was beginning to wonder if copious amounts of brandy and ginger wine had been taken . . .

@RogerOThornhill

How are you feeling today? Better than yesterday, I hope.

Nationalism has no place in the modern world. Let’s look at all this as the monstor’s dying breaths.

If not I would thoroughly recommend it. Although as it's christmas, which is the season of all sorts of weird drinks at odd hours, tonights' little helper is bourbon and 'special mixer 'smokey' coca cola''. Which is really quite nice.

I would like to request a formal investigation into why Adam is so clearly having a much better time than I am.

I would submit, in evidence, the Instagram account of a new model who posted stuff every day for a month, got loads of movers and shakers following her, got lots of comments and likes, and at the end of the month posted a message saying "I had a drink in my hand in every single photo I posted and nobody said a word to me about it. I am a health committee, not a real person, and this was a social experiment about alcoholism"

(although I am a real person and I don't think this is a social experiment. It's my mum, she comes to visit and leaves behind for me half a dozen bottles of things people have given her and that somebody has taken one drink from).

(Although to be fair it is then me who drinks them).

Excellent response and good reasoning. I may have to let this one pass.
Will consult my advisors and provide a decision shortly.

Meanwhile: If nationalism is an expression of community solidarity then these are communities I want no part of. Wherever they are.
