Morning all.
Re: Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th December 2019
From tinyclanger2 yesterday:
So although I very much agree nationalism has no place in the modern world, I would go further and say it has never had a place in the natural evolution of human society. It has always been something imposed from above by those who seek to rule over us, tapping into the powerful forces responsible for natural tribal loyalties by manipulating our natural desire to belong with fake stories of nation creation and national heroes.
Of course, the modern day idea of a "nation state" is a relatively recent invention dating back to the mid-17th century and is something of a contrived and artificial construct. Sense of nation and national pride is not innate but needs to be carefully crafted, often with invented national stories and appeals to militaristic pride and patriotism. It's often unsuccessful, with historical cultural connections across artificial borders often maintaining a stronger pull. Attempts to create nation states on the continent of Africa in particular have been complicated with devastating consequences by the far stronger cultural ties of tribal loyalties.Nationalism has no place in the modern world. Let’s look at all this as the monstor’s dying breaths.

Not always a fan of Frances Coppola, but she's nailed IDS here.

Forcing economically inactive people into the pool of available labour INCREASES unemployment. Without IDS's reforms, unemployment would probably have fallen faster. 3/

There's some weird old stuff coming out of Tories lately who seem to be pretending that they haven't been in government for the past 9 years.
Like this nonsense.
MARK WALLACE Civil servants had their own way for years… but not under Boris Johnson

Poor Nick...his propping up the Tories for 5 years now forgotten...

And there have been spills — David Cameron’s abrupt exit from power, Theresa May’s loss of her majority, and the hijack of the Labour Party by the far Left. But there have been only a few moments — mere months in the past ten years — of certain, stable, clear government.

I once arranged to get uninterrupted access to a friend's classroom so I could change his 'teacher-messanger-thing-we-used-to-have' avatar to a picture of Lionel Richie and change the 'message received' tone to 'Hello - Is it me you're looking for'.
He worked out it was me pretty quickly.

Long Bailey confirms that she intends to stand for the Labour leadership. And that her friend Rayner is going for deputy.

My brother's girlfriend arrived today to rescue us, his car blew up on the way up here,so we've been stranded here ever since. She had a few fancy ideas how to deal with dementia using wellness techniques so we went to the pub and left her with our mum for a few hours. Upon our return she looked...disturbed and frightened.
I'm just lying here in bed wondering if this vague urge to get up for a wee is worth the effort.

Interesting that Long-Bailey is described as working class because her dad was a docker. See my earlier queries on what working class means - particularly to whoever it is Labour are trying to appeal to.
