Nationalism has no place in the modern world. Let’s look at all this as the monstor’s dying breaths.

Of course, the modern day idea of a "nation state" is a relatively recent invention dating back to the mid-17th century and is something of a contrived and artificial construct. Sense of nation and national pride is not innate but needs to be carefully crafted, often with invented national stories and appeals to militaristic pride and patriotism. It's often unsuccessful, with historical cultural connections across artificial borders often maintaining a stronger pull. Attempts to create nation states on the continent of Africa in particular have been complicated with devastating consequences by the far stronger cultural ties of tribal loyalties.

So although I very much agree nationalism has no place in the modern world, I would go further and say it has never had a place in the natural evolution of human society. It has always been something imposed from above by those who seek to rule over us, tapping into the powerful forces responsible for natural tribal loyalties by manipulating our natural desire to belong with fake stories of nation creation and national heroes.

I once arranged to get uninterrupted access to a friend's classroom so I could change his 'teacher-messanger-thing-we-used-to-have' avatar to a picture of Lionel Richie and change the 'message received' tone to 'Hello - Is it me you're looking for'.

He worked out it was me pretty quickly.

My brother's girlfriend arrived today to rescue us, his car blew up on the way up here,so we've been stranded here ever since. She had a few fancy ideas how to deal with dementia using wellness techniques so we went to the pub and left her with our mum for a few hours. Upon our return she looked...disturbed and frightened.

I'm just lying here in bed wondering if this vague urge to get up for a wee is worth the effort.
