Have to say, good opening pitch from Nandy last night.
She's probably not going to win - indeed, might well not get on the ballot - but it can't do her any harm.

Came across this the other day, a good read.
How Labour increased its vote share in the Isle of Wight against the odds
How Labour increased its vote share in the Isle of Wight against the odds
The “othering” of Corbyn had long extended past him alone to encompass the entire party. To support Corbyn’s Labour was, according to most of our national media, somehow beyond common decency. We knew this had happened before the campaign started, and one of our earliest priorities was to create a safe space for supporters.

Yes, a very interesting article.
Can't help noticing that quite a few Labour MPs who lost their seats had spent the previous 3/4 years non-stop criticising the leadership. That isn't exactly going to motivate lots of party members to campaign for them, is it.....

Yes, this is our experience too. Most people don't want trouble or contention and I think the hostility turned people away. There was unprecedented intimidation, abuse (and destruction of signage) in this election.

I've been looking at various housing floor plans in different UK counties. On property sites great quantities of valuable space is often given over to the storage of motor vehicles rather than the rooms people live in.

I wondered what Christian Wolmar thought about HS2 , one minute 15 into this

BOJO 's appointing a previous chairman of HS2 Ltd to enquire into whether it should continue was er very odd ?

Didn't see Marr this morning, but a fairly disinterested observer tells me that Starmer was almost on a different planet to Phillips.

I didn't realise that it was on. I thought it was still on the festive break until next weekend.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Didn't see Marr this morning, but a fairly disinterested observer tells me that Starmer was almost on a different planet to Phillips.

I was at that Wapping demo btw, hairy (and scary) stuff.
In a phenomenon that would become all too familiar, the subsequent BBC "reporting" bore little or no resemblance to what had actually happened.

We all have the ability to ignore distress and become accustomed to weirdness.frog222 wrote:sociopath elements

Because trust me, sitting listening to your mother with late stage Alzheimer's repeating a handful of phrases for hours on end, day in day out does make you eventually begin ignoring any distress she's incapable of expressing while accustomising you to the weirdness.
And that's my Dads life now. My Brother and I were nearly crying when we left.
But we're big hard northern fellows.
So nothing will be done until it all goes catastrophically wrong.

If this was a Marx brothers film you'd be expecting Groucho to stand up and say "This means war!"
