And to celebrate here's another excellent Peter Foster thread. He's off to the FT, amazing he's lasted so long at the torygraph.
Peter Foster
@pmdfoster

@MichelBarnier
and 2 others
So in practice the UK will be free to do a lot of things, but it won't - AND YET it will suck up a huge amount of cost in order to be free to do something that, economically, doesn't make sense. /13

Labour is stuck in the last century. Its adversaries have seized the future

This John Harris piece doesn't have anything new to say about Labour imo, what caught my eye was the second part of the headline, which is also his conclusion.
their party and movement are still stuck in the 20th century while their adversaries speed into the future.
He doesn't explain why he thinks the tories are doing that, it seems to me they're going further back than Labour. Maybe he's thinking of the SNP?
Bizarre.

AK -- It doesn't much feel like a good morning, but WTF ! :-)

I moved over here nearly 44 years ago and have been quite happy to just renew my Carte de Sejour...I didn't really want to go through the bureaucratic hassle of becoming French, and have been busy on other things too ! My pensions are here, and I have local medical cover unlike some others who rely on the EHIC card .

I see from the very good English language monthly the Connexion that a few unfortunate individuals have been hit by Hostile Environment bureaucrats, but most cases appear to have been settled favourably .

As with so very much else, it's a question of Wait and See for all of us.

Listened to John Pienaar yesterday, urbane as usual BUT quietly showing up the clueless Brexit Minister.

Alice in Wonderland stuff !

Presumably he's thinking of the "digital warfare" stuff.

But one of the best ways of countering that might well be old-fashioned activity on the ground (and crucially, not just at elections but between them)

Labour defeat due to gimmicks and division, say members

Review led by Ed Miliband tasked with suggesting ways the party might find a path to power
(Guardian)
That bit about gimmicks must hit home hard for Ed Miliband (the "Ed Stone").

Left-wing alliance sees off Salvini’s far-right in key Italian regional election after turnout surge
An alliance of left-of-centre parties has beaten back Matteo Salvini’s far-right alliance in a key Italian regional election. Polls had been suggesting that Emilia-Romagna, a longstanding leftist stronghold, would fall to Mr Salvini’s League and its allies. But the populists were kept out of power after a vast surge in turnout – despite a big increase in the share of the vote for Mr Salvini’s party.
