If it's bad news for labour it'll probably be released on the same day as the Russia report.

If it isn't we may never see either of them.

There are some areas where they may well go down the extreme paths, but I'll be surprised if immigration is one of them. May proved how hard it was to keep immigration down even when she really, really wanted to, I can't see Johnson having that level of commitment to it, he doesn't care.

Of course a Brexit-induced recession is the sure way to reduce immigration.

When Whitehall sources feel they have to make it clear that Johnson will not roll over in trade talks it's a sign his entire previous track record indicates that there is a high chance he will roll over in trade talks.

The same Whitehall sources, journalists and analysts who in August 2019 told us Boris Johnson would never cave over the border in Ireland, now tell us he will never cave over alignment with the EU.

He might as well do the speech in Florence.
