I was relieved to see that Starmer was specific about abolishing the WCA in yesterday's Gdn article.

Crucially replaced by what.There were reasons as to why reform was seen as necessary not least emanating from the woeful lack of support to continue work/work,contribute,participate.If Labour just give a bit of dosh and a pat on the head without adequately addressing -universal application ignoring the very different needs,wants,desires,rights as everyone else doesn't cut it.IT aint enough beyond symbolism.THe World isn't binary,unexpectation to work should never mean not facilitating ,providing the means beyond a few quid buy off-commiting the accused sin of governments past-leaving alone shouldn't mean leaving to passively receive and no more if you don't want to.

Starmer is clearly the right person to choose given the options for those who don't want to

I of course will accept the democratic choice and bemoan accordingly.

My ideal of course,given an option would be a party membership of a handful and being in Government rather than gauging success from number of members,attendees at a rally,and democracy viewed as an exclusive option of yes or no pertaining to one candidate.

But what if that option isn't actually available?

Might also be worth noting that Tory membership has risen markedly (admittedly from historic lows) in recent years - and that they arguably had a "movement" behind their recent big win as well. I refer, of course, to the pro-Brexit movement.

Saying that reform was obviously necessary and past Governments needed/need to address doesn't mean you agree with the specifity,it merely means you have regard to the cogent reasons,justifications,context,fight for equal citizenship from "below" which still exist

Denmark used to be almost as Eurosceptic as us, interestingly support there for leaving the EU has dropped markedly post June 2016.

36% positive

And 20% of that positive is ambiguous. "Relieved" doesn't necessarily mean any love for Brexit. It could just mean a dislike for indecision.

You had to choose from that list.

Note that the far less ambiguous "happy" and "sad" are missing. "Worried" mostly sounds negative, but people who want to leave might still be predominantly worried.

I wonder what a poll on "do you think leaving the EU is a good idea" might say right now?

Two local council byelections yesterday to conclude both the month and our VASSALAGE in the EU:

Suffolk CC/West Suffolk DC - this "double header" saw two Tory holds, the county council seat with half the vote (almost unchanged on three years ago) in a division that has long been safe for them though UKIP challenged in 2013 and made it closer in a previous 2016 byelection. Their support, as elsewhere, fell away three years ago and they did not stand this time - instead the LibDems regained the second place they managed in 2005 and 2009 as they doubled their support to 18%, followed by the localist West Suffolk Independents who edged forward to 14% closely followed by Labour (who fell a similar amount) and finally the Greens who scored 7% in their first outing here. The district seat - the first for the new merged council here that had its initial election with redrawn boundaries last year when this ward split 1WSI/1C - saw the Tories retain their seat with 42%, an increase of some 7 points since a year ago. And that was enough for a very comfortable victory given the fragmented nature of the opposition this time - LibDems second with 18% (as in the CC result) after sitting things out last time, overtaking WSI whose support plummeted by some 25 points. Labour support also halved to 10%, but still ahead of two other new entrants - an Independent and then finally the Greens on 6%.

One contest next week (in Warrington) to begin THE BREXIT ERA.

Children diagnosed with autism are struggling to get any support, either within schools or via the NHS.

Mental health services for children are so severely rationed with such long waiting lists to be almost non-existent.

It's not just about money.

Demand for such services is growing because the demands and expectations placed on children to perform by competing schools is helping create the very problems we no longer appear to be willing to provide services for. The same impulses that demand "resilience" and "excellence" from our kids create the hostile, rigid environments that actually erode resilience in those who, for whatever reason, can't conform.

Tbh I was in two minds if I should post or not,given the stipulation in effect trawling for juicy stories ,particular concerning death, because it is now apparently now deemed newsworthy when they largely ignored the obvious consequences warned about or worse praised those who enacted targeted harm.

Not that I am in anyway cynical.

We've done better than this. I'm frightened by this regression because it's a choice. NHS mental health services in our area aren't able to fill positions required. It wasn't like this before the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

In the pub just now numbers of people agreed they wouldn't allow any future government to throw me out .

What happened on 31st January? It was the day of the obvious end point of dangerous contagion, with consequences we still can't understand and the need for next steps that we still simply haven't grasped.

Oh, and the coronavirus arrived.
