A woman from Detention Action doing a good job arguing against these deportations on BBC News. The interviewer was being depressingly aggressive in her attempts to validate the government's actions, prompting the rather cutting response "you can't govern by slogans"!

Also featured on BBC News this morning is a tearful woman being kicked out of her home by HS2 with just a few months notice plus the new generation of Swampys preparing to occupy ancient woodlands due to be destroyed.

I suggested previously that Johnson would feel he couldn't afford the negative publicity of HS2 not going ahead as it's the opposite of the image he's trying to create of 'Brexit Britain gets things done'. I suspect he'll even relish the environmental fight, no doubt painting protesters as anti-British moany, remainers, but the weeping pensioners being kicked out the homes they've worked hard all their lives for and are not being anywhere near adequately compensated for could prove less easy to dismiss as acceptable collateral damage.

Walkers urged to help save historic footpaths before 2026 deadline
Lost paths must be identified by government deadline to be added to official record
“Our paths are one of our most precious assets. They connect us to our landscapes – ensuring we can explore our towns and cities on foot and enjoy walking in the countryside – and to our history and the people who formed them over the centuries. If we lose our paths, a little bit of our past goes with them. This is our only opportunity to save thousands of miles of rights of way and time is running out.”

How do we effectively and constructively respond to prevaricators intentionally warping discourse who're leading people astray?

I suspect the PM still isn't personally enthusiastic, but others have insisted this goes ahead.

Brexit and Tory government damage peoples' lives and prosperity and there are commentators elsewhere denying reality while denigrating others acknowledging what's going on.

Anyway, all the Tory MPs who have loudly proclaimed their opposition to HS2 (for the last decade, in some cases) are now in an interesting position.

Care worker sleep-in pay ruling risks becoming a nightmare
I don't like workers being paid less than their full wage any time they're still at work.

If you mean full wage means equivalent to waking nights I am afraid I have to disagree, there has to be,in fairness,a distinction. In either case ,this may have a serious impact on the sick/disabled especially employers, either directly or as a consequence. Some eon's ago in our case an overnight/sleep in rate in two categories which didn't equate to "normal"hourly rate.If it had the available support would have been severely impacted and/or we wouldn't had respite of a night away every two weeks. The alternative of chucking in an institution for periods was both unacceptable and far more expensive.

Care workers aren't paid enough. Not anywhere near enough. They must be paid more.

Far too sweeping statement. We paid a fair wage. They were hardly exploited. If the consequence is reduced support ,no one gains

"The panel was of the view that the manner in which Ms Bunge was described as setting herself up in a recliner chair, with another chair for her feet, dimming the lights and covering herself with a coat indicated that her sleeping on duty was a pre-meditated act."

What do you mean "full wage";what about breaks;how do you distinguish between on-call/sleeping/waking nights or don't you?

A simplistic substantial rise in wages based on a exploitative bosses and oppressed workers view doesn't "work"here IMHO.

I distinguish work as work and not being at work as not being at work.

The Tory party and other aristocratic groups like them sweat the labour out of every worker they can get their claws on and cheat workers out of good things they've created.

HindleA, it doesn't take a Tory long discovering how much cheaper it is paying night wages for day work.
Look at that jackass 'living wage' list horsehit. The age differences! The miniscule amounts of money!

Like trying to nail a balloon to a wall.Suffice to say,I would be a very rich man on your basis. There is a distinction between " being at work and working" and totally different categories of work that you haven't addressed.

Peace,love
