Morning all.

Inside Boris Johnson's Whitehall: 'A poisonous, horrible atmosphere'

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... atmosphere
Dave Penman, the general secretary of the FDA union, which represents permanent secretaries, said the suggestion of a hit list of senior civil servants is a “self-destructive low” for No 10.

“These cowardly briefings against officials – who they know are not allowed to answer back – do untold damage to the trust between civil servants and ministers, far wider than the ministries targeted in this round of back-stabbing.

“Civil servants will wonder what kind of organisation so publicly undermines its most senior and able staff for a quick headline, and potential candidates will wonder whether it’s the sort of workplace they want risk their reputation in,” he said.
Tends to happen when there are poisonous horrible people in government...

Is there an echo in here? ;)

Oh, and I strongly disagree in all respects.

This "self-isolate" business (coronavirus) -

What steps has the Government taken to secure people's income in such circumstances? We never hear anything on that front.

Edited to add -

Well, I don't. But I haven't really been paying attention.

I always leave voting in these things until fairly late, and expect I will do so this time. Not least because I'm not 100% set on my preferences yet.

(though pretty sure about who I am putting number 1 in both)

“Suffering is the condition on which we live. And when it comes, you know it, you know it as the truth. Of course it’s right to cure diseases, to prevent hunger and injustice, as the social organism does. But no society can change the nature of existence. We can’t prevent suffering. This pain and that pain, yes, but not Pain. A society can only relieve social suffering, unnecessary suffering. The rest remains. The root, the reality. All of us here are going to know grief; if we live fifty years, we’ll have known pain for fifty years. And in the end we’ll die. That’s the condition we’re born on. I’m afraid of life! There are times I — I am very frightened. Any happiness seems trivial. And yet, I wonder if it isn’t all a misunderstanding — this grasping after happiness, this fear of pain...If instead of fearing it and running from it, one could ...get through it, go beyond it. There is something beyond it. It’s the self that suffers, and there’s a place where the self — ceases. I don’t know how to say it but I believe that the reality — the truth that I recognize in suffering as I don’t in comfort and happiness — that the reality of pain is not pain. If you can get through it. If you can endure it all the way.”

I see that Steve Baker has resigned as Chairman from that European Research Group that may have done some research that we're not allowed to see but probably didn't do any.

His seat saw a swing to Labour in December, against the national trend of course.

I see that David Steel has taken over the mantle from Shami Chakrabarti as "Person who used to have good reputation but has seen it turn to shite."

Tebbit doesn't come out of that report looking that great either but no-one seems to be talking about him.

Been out with a friend. He's had two warnings now about his liver functionality.

And I have to say he drinks more then me but in a good way. He enjoys it and he's good at it. He's funny and witty and drinking for him is a lifestyle. I've never heard him be mean to anyone. And yet he's being warned to cut down on the booze while I had the same tests and am perfectly fine. There's no justice in this world.

His dad remarried after his mother died and now he has a right wing, Boris Johnson loving, stepmother.

Anyway we used to live in the same house and...

So three weeks now waiting for a decision.

Evidently I've not been handling it as well as I would have hoped.

And for that I apologise.

It's all very well to imagime how splendidly you would react to adversity in your own head. But it's quite different in real life.
