My only real question about yesterday's Neil interviews are - why are Labour people still doing them?

They can't avoid them? The uproar against Labour people from media would be worse than attending those interviews?

What will it take for positive change to come? When will these private enterprises be held accountable for their failures?

They should have tried harder to hold the BBC to account after Johnson dodged him IMO.

Widely reported that Sen Warren is about to withdraw from the Democratic contest - a boost for Bernie just when he needs it?

Poor families see incomes drop by 7% over two years in shocking new figures
It has certainly felt like that, I have to say. A couple of years ago we were still managing to scrape together enough for a modest holiday. Suddenly, not only can't we afford a holiday, we're actually running up debt just trying to cover food and bills. And now all the banks have decided en masse to significantly up the interest rates on overdrafts, which will make getting back on track even harder.

Question Time panel for tonight.

Matt Hancock - A discarded reject from The Muppet Show that his parents found in a bin and inexplicably decided to raise as a human.
Margaret Beckett - The self styled moron who nominated Jeremy Corbyn for Labour's leadership.
Layla Moran - Makes me tingle.
Tim Stanley - Telegraph nutcase who looks a bit like a shit Gaius Baltar from the Battlestar Galactica reboot, just the hair though.
Xand van Tulleken - A doctor specialising in tropical medicine.

Coming from Tunbridge Wells so expect even more disgust than usual if that's at all possible.

I'll have you know it is Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Off we go with a question on Coronavirus.

Sober responses so far as you would expect, Tim Stanley tries the patriotic angle claiming we British will be unique in dealing with this as we are used to keeping calm and carrying on. Nobody clapped.

According to a member of the audience the supermarkets are half empty in Tunbridge Wells, I went shopping earlier in Leeds and the only shortage seemed to be mayonnaise so make of that what you will.

Layla Moran reminds us listening to experts might actually be a good idea.

Yeah, tried that.

Strangely enough ignoring your money troubles doesn't make them go away. Someone should tell him.

Missed a bit had to go for a wee.

Tim Stanley, who I reiterate writes for the Telegraph, once again tries to ingratiate himself with the audience by claiming hospitals already have overstretched A&E depts, staff shortages and too many patients who should be recieving social care at home. This time some fools in the audience clap him presumably in ignorance of his politics.

Layla Moran pointed out Johnson claimed during the election that within 100 days he'd convene a cross party panel on adult social care to come up with solutions. And so far absolutely nothing has happened.

Margaret Beckett hopes this might lead to more communal caring and people being nice to each other.

Xand the doctor points out the NHS and our welfare system puts us in a better place to respond to situations like this than the U.S. Matt Hancock nods along as if he's completely oblivious to the machinations of his own government. Which he probably is.

Now we're on to Priti Patel.

Margaret Beckett points out she's a repeat offender.
Tim Stanley thinks it's a civil service conspiracy against her.
Layla Moran points out this bullying culture is being led by Downing Street.
Xand the doctor is concerned about sexisism from the Left.
Matt Hancock knows nothing about it but says she's lovely.

Xand the doctor points out he finds her politics odious.
Matt Hancock claims people are innocent until proven guilty.

Evidently he's never had to deal with the DWP.

And we're done.

Apparently because Queen Victoria loved the Spar there.

"Have we any beer left?"
"I'm afraid not ma'am."
"We are not amused."
"Well there's always the Spar Ma'am."
"Splendid, I'll have 8 cans of Tennents super."

Must have missed that.

He really was an ingratiating creep of the worst kind.

Isn't it funny how whenever any of these right wing commentators face the public the first thing they do is try to make the public think they're one of them, that they're on their side, a man or woman of the people, despite writing endless reams of hagiographic shite in praise of governments who hold such people in contempt. And the sad thing is it works, populism works. Being a disingenuous lying manipulative shit works. Preying upon the ignorance of your audience works. Perhaps they always did and for a brief civilised while it was deemed 'un-British' to indulge in that kind of behaviour. And from thence comes the myth that the British are immune to extremism. Well no more.

And that's a problem for the left. We like to think of ourselves as above all that kind of thing while our opponents couldn't give a fuck.
