2° outside earlier , so I lit my stove !

Very glad I brought the wheelbarrow full of yesterday's repotted plants into the kitchen.

France Culture Radio on.

Day Three Report from the hospital in Mulhouse . The revivalist meeting ended 27feb and people dispersed all over France, three here to LaManche, two 13miles away from me . afaik they've recovered and a cluster since eliminated too.

But at Mulhouse it's still raging, just like in Northern Italy . Hospital staff infected, those still active exhausted physically and mentally , 200 severe cases, many deaths, some intensive cases evacuated by air force planes to military hospitals in the South.

900 nationally in intensive care, not that long since it was 100 . THAT will double soon .

Shortage of masks etc

I don't suppose any Wetherspoons customers understand French , but sure Johnson does.

Incredulity on FranceCulture at the english being used as guinea pigs, but actually, outside the red zones most people were as ignorant not long ago ... it's not that many days since I saw my lovely dentist shake hands with a departing patient .

I was wondering how many corona-bombs could be lingering on my surfaces , in the car, around the house , so here's a link (reference from Sky) :

Morning.
Everything feels a little strange today. I've gone from two children off school that I've been trying to get back to school like all their peers only to have their peers now all being off school like them! My daughter is delighted she's now "normal" like everyone else, doing school online from home! And my son, whose GCSE's had been messed up by illness, is now being joined by the rest of his year whose GCSE's are all being messed up by illness. I'm still trying to get my head around it all.
On the politics front, can we really continue with the clown that is Boris? And shouldn't we have someone who understands economics as Chancellor? Calls for an emergency coalition government are already starting and for good reason. They have been absolutely shit.

The pool and sauna etc in Granville closed rather tardively on Monday ... and everything's accelerated since .

The finance minister was on the radio for nearly 40 minutes, answering questions .

For sole businesses not covered by other safeguards ? " We're passing a law this afternoon providing immediate cash payments of €1500"

No "money tree" in 2018 ? " Health comes first".

The 3% budget deficit rule ? " This is an emergency."

Went to see my neighbour, 10 years older than me at 83, he was busy looking after his trotters.
He'd already printed out the attestation form which we have to show gendarmes if we're away from home, NEAREST shops ONLY allowed , for example .

Pantomime clown Boris Johnson flounders as crisis deepens
The government had been doing a brilliant job by employing the nudge economics of such superb super-forecasters as Dominic Cummings and Steve Hilton, who have so far managed to get just about every forecast wrong. The thing was, these geniuses had managed to subvert nudge theory into turning it on its head. Long live the weirdos and the misfits. The model the government was using was to do nothing and just wait until everyone introduced sensible panic measures of their own. Then once the public had done its job for it, the government would then be nudged into turning it into official policy........

........There were no answers on closures of schools either, despite several questions on them. Looks like the plan is to be nudged into doing it later after Scotland and Wales have taken the lead.

Citizen, you're probably not aware of the Saltburn cliff lift, but there's a local Tory councillor who won't shut up about how expensive it is and there's no proof it helps the local economy etc etc.
The cliff lift is a lovely thing and long may it continue.

We keep being told that there is a plentiful supply of protective equipment for NHS staff, but it is "just" a distribution problem. Is this a lie, or is the Government incapable of organising an efficient delivery system? It seems fairly basic to me.

In the end, only one of the four "principal" authority byelections due today is going ahead (in Coventry)

Along with a few parish/town council contests still on, this is going to be our last electoral action for a while now that the legislation to delay them has been passed.

I certainly think there is an awful lot of good in saying clearly to Y11 and Y13 students 'don't worry about the practicalities of your qualifications...' but they've done this in a very casual way - I know they're going to make announcements tomorrow but tomorrow is the last day schools will see kids for an indefinite period of time. I have no idea how post 16 vocational courses will now play out - some of the work in those can only be done with specialist equipment in school under our supervision and monitoring - and we have students who we are telling 'don't worry about your qualifications' and 'we just don't know how this is going to work'. And (this is not a big point, I know, but still) it's difficult then saying to Y9 and 10 students 'no, they are finished and sorted out, you have to work or you'll fall horribly behind'.

(There are infinitely more important things going on, no question, but given they kept schools going for a couple of weeks longer than just about anybody else, you might think it was because they were nailing down how this kind of thing was going to work out).

And spent the time nailing down the definition of "key worker" so that schools know whose kids they are supposed to be looking after from now on (besides those with EHCPs.)
