Did you want to be terrified or cheered up?

Coronavirus: London hospital almost runs out of oxygen for Covid-19 patients

If I find something in the latter category I'll let you know.

The Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) says the virus is so widespread and infectious, and the risks to frontline staff so great, that everyone in hospital should always have their mouth covered to reduce the risk of transmission.

My uncle had a fall he didn't have COVID19. He caught it in hospital and has now sadly died from COVID19.

Just a few weeks ago we buried his only Son. We are devastated as a family but I'm also angry.

Government needs to Test everyone who works in the hospitals without delay!

For many years the Telegraph has acted, quite literally, as Boris Johnson’s personal mouthpiece. This front page is unprecedented. The government’s in deep shit.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is to stream a selection of his musicals online for free starting with Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. (Politics Live, Guardian)
I'll leave it there.

The real reason the UK government pursued “herd immunity” – and why it was abandoned
How an attempt to justify mass public gatherings became viewed as a cold-blooded experiment in social engineering.

National Theatre live at home starts tonight - livestreamed at 7pm (although obviously they're just 'playing' the recording 'live' on YouTube at 7pm) and then available to watch all week. One Man Two Guvnors is first and is really good.

Whilst responsibility lies ultimately with the Govt. this overly bureaucratic approach is sadly typical of much of the management of the #NHS & it has to change - now. We’re in a national emergency.
They just can't stop, can they.

refers to this story
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/medi ... 3605a95556" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the interests of 'efficiency', the Conservatives have dismantled the structure of the NHS over 10 years. Instead of management, NHS has administration.
Steve Richards said 'An inexperienced Number 10 of Brexit campaigners unclear what levers to pull'.
I'd say they've done away with most of the levers.

We used to have Area Health Authorities, those were the days.

Looking forward to seeing this as we missed it at the time. Next week's play is Twelfth Night, with Tamsin Greig, which was so good the entire Sonny family saw it twice!

Tate is to release free online tours of two major exhibitions that closed early because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Tate Modern’s Andy Warhol show and Tate Britain’s Aubrey Beardsley show were on the list of must-sees for many art-lovers. They both opened in early March to positive reviews before closing when the galleries abruptly shut down on 17 March. (Politics Live, Guardian)
I'll give the Andy Warhol a swerve, but the Aubrey Beardsley one is of interest to me.

Matt Hancock is back is what I've heard, while Boris is still feeling poorly/sorry for himself - delete as appropriate.
Liz Truss was rumoured at one point, but I'm not sure the government could have survived that.

Some good news!

Arron Banks fails in effort to use EU laws to avoid £162,000 tax bill

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... 0-tax-bill
Banks challenged the decision at the first-tier tribunal, arguing the law on political donations being exempt from inheritance tax breached his human rights and breached EU law.

He claimed the provisions of the Inheritance Tax Act were unlawfully discriminatory under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and also breached his – and Ukip’s – right to freedom of expression and freedom of assembly under the convention.
"We also find that Mr Banks appears to be a nasty little hypocrite. So we're telling him to sod off"

From the above:
First he was going to write off £13bn of NHS debt. On any other day this would have been the biggest news story – one that would have horrified most of his fellow Tory MPs – but now it was nothing more than a throwaway aside. An academic footnote.
I'd be very surprised if this didn't relate to just the accumulation of NHS spending more than its budget so they effectively owe the Treasury.

Overall Government accounts? No impact whatsoever.
