How the Government Screwed Up On Coronavirus So Badly

Great title, very succinct.
It seems the Great British Public aren't as revolutionary as Brexit might have implied. People thought they were voting for a safe and secure past, not an uncertain, disaster capitalism future. The Tories understood this, encouraged these false notions, yet even so have been floored a little it seejs by the deep vein of small 'c' conservatism running through the British public that has enthusiastically embraced the paternalistic restrictions of lockdown in a true 'Blitz' spirit and aren't, it seems, any where near as desperate to get back to the treadmill as our wealthy overlords are.
Let's hope the public continue to shoot down those "lockdown busting" kites that are currently flying and quietly refuse to go back to work until their safety is placed before company profits.

Starmer has been criticised by some for making the need for a government "exit strategy" a key part of his message. But surely the above is a key reason why he is doing so - many don't trust the government and think they will try to force everything "back to normal" before it is actually safe to do so.

If there is actually something definable that they can be held to, that becomes all the harder.

I thought the management of the stockpile was outsourced to a private company.

I also thought after the 2016 pandemic test it was recommended to the government that stocks were inadequate.

I also got the very strong impression from the Panorama programme that stocks had become even more depleted between 2016 and now.

All of which is a roundabout way of wondering whether the amount of stockpile the scientific advisors thought we had and thought was adequate was, in fact, the same as the stockpile we actually had by Jan 2020.

It’s 10 years since bigotgate. It exposed much. Concern about community, nationhood and the impact of immigration was dismissed as swivel-eyed bigotry by our New Labour elites. It would bring Brown’s coronation and New Labour’s technocratic and Oxbridge-class rule to a swift end.

People have been falling over themselves to remind Grimes that (i) Brown went to Edinburgh and (ii) we've had 3 Oxford-educated PMs since him...

In any case didn't the subject of Brown's ire actually go on and vote Labour?
