A criminal barrister, some great replies.

I have to say as justifications go. That was the worst account I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard a lot of police interviews. I even heard one where the accused pretended to be his own non-existent, identical but estranged twin brother. Dominic Cummings was worse by miles

Another thing I'm confused about was Johnson's specs routine.

He claimed coronavirus had made him need glasses 'for the first time in years'.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Had he previously been suffering from some form of macular degeneration but it had magically got better? Or has he had laser eye surgery and is claiming Coronavirus has somehow undone it? Because as far as I'm aware Covid 19 does not reshape the human cornea. Or could it be they were a prop to back up Cummings preposterous story?

Hmmm...let's see, which seems the most likely?

One of a few truths in this? Cummings was attending SAGE meetings. He was one of the best informed people in the country about what the rules were and why they had to be what they were.

It was a very strange interlude. I think he was lying. He was able to read his papers without them and his distance vision seemed ok.

Worth recalling from wiki the stuff surrounding Javid's resignation.
Tensions between 10 Downing Street and Treasury had come to a head during August 2019, when the Prime Minister's Chief Special Adviser Dominic Cummings relieved one of Chancellor Javid's aides, Sonia Khan, of her employment, without Javid's permission and without informing him. It was alleged that, during her dismissal, Cummings "went outside No 10 and asked an armed officer to enter the building and escort Khan off the premises."[170] Javid "voiced anger" to Johnson over the dismissal of Khan[171] and Cummings faced the prospect of a probe by a governmental ethics watchdog following the dismissal.[172] In November 2019, following questions of a rift between Johnson and Javid, Johnson gave his assurance that he would retain Javid as Chancellor after the 2019 general election.[173]

However, in the weeks leading up to the reshuffle, a number of briefings in the press had suggested that a new economic ministry led by Rishi Sunak might be established, to reduce the power and political influence of the Treasury. Sunak was considered to be a Johnson loyalist, seen as the "rising star" minister who had ably represented the Prime Minister during the 2019 election debates.[174][175] By February 2020, it was reported that Javid would remain in his role as Chancellor and that Sunak would stay on as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, in order to "keep an eye" on Javid.[176]

On 13 February 2020, the day of the reshuffle, Javid resigned as Chancellor of the Exchequer, following a meeting with the Prime Minister. During the meeting, Johnson had offered to keep his position on the condition that he fire all of his advisers at the Treasury, to be replaced with individuals selected by 10 Downing Street. Upon resigning, Javid told the Press Association that "no self-respecting minister would accept those terms".[177][178]

The Chancellor's resignation was unexpected, given Johnson's commitment to retain Javid within the Cabinet, and recent reports that an alternative finance ministry would not be made. Robert Shrimsley, chief political commentator of the Financial Times, stated that the Prime Minister's choices at the time risked damaging the government, that "good government often depends on senior ministers – and the Chancellor in particular – being able to fight bad ideas".[179]

Javid was due to deliver his first budget on 11 March 2020, which was expected to include increased spending on infrastructure, public services and the environment, with a higher level of investment in the north and the Midlands. On the day of his resignation, he was immediately replaced by[180] his deputy,[181] Rishi Sunak. Javid became the first Chancellor in 50 years to not have delivered any budget, since Iain Macleod. His time as Chancellor, 204 days, represented the second-fewest days in office since the Second World War.[180]

This has been a ridiculous day
I've lived and worked in Yorkshire and Co Durham all my life and I've never heard that expression before, it's a good one.

Fact: Barnard Castle is currently in Co Durham but has been in Yorkshire from time to time, historically.

Boris said to the daily mail 5 years ago that he needed glassse and was as “blind as a bat”. So today was a lie.
Or maybe he was lying 5 years ago.

I mean how credulous would you have to be to believe that a man would test his eyesight by jumping in a car with his wife and child and driving 60 miles? How the actual fuck does that make the slightest bit of sense? "Darling my eyesight is 'a bit weird', would you mind jumping in the car with me and bring our son along?"

Give over.

It's one thing lying to brexit imbeciles but both Johnson and Cummings are taking the piss out of all of us now and they can't be allowed to get away with it.

I got into a (somewhat drunken) argument with someone last year when they claimed Middlesbrough was in Yorkshire. When I was growing up we got both Border and Tyne Tees so going by ITV in my head Middlesbrough was part of the North East and having only visited the place once briefly before running away it had never occured to me to think otherwise. Obviously I was completely wrong and it cost me a pint.

This is just great, so Cummings has been retrospectively editing his lunatic blog to make it appear he was warning about a Coronavirus pandemic last year when in fact he did no such thing?

Brilliant.

What next? Maybe he'll claim his blog goes back 65 million years and he warned the dinosaurs that a big asteroid was about to smash into the planet?

Or perhaps he'll claim that he advised the Athenians not to invade Sicily as it would cost them the Peloponnesian war.

(Johnson isn't the only useless Classicist this country has to offer I'll have you know).

Well at least we don't live in America.

Look at this...

https://twitter.com/McauleyHolmes/statu ... wsrc%5Etfw

Much as we love to mock Trump and his supporters this looks absolutely appalling to me, shouting and screaming at a woman and calling her a 'dirty assed pig' for not wearing a mask, and this video is being shared across left wing sites in the U.S as if it's a good thing.

And that's the very direction Johnson and Cummings want to take us.

Did anyone read the article in the Guardian today about Courtney Love in early Eighties Liverpool?

I had no idea she'd been a Julian Cope groupie.

A friend lent me his biography a couple of months ago and as much I'm amused by him he's a truly awful human being, he admits using his girlfriend's toothbrush to clean up after himself after he shat himself in the shower then didn't tell her. I mean that's worse than Cummings for god's sake. And that's just one example of what a colossal dick he admits to being...but anyway.
