Good morfternoon.
In his London Playbook briefing this morning Jack Blanchard from Politico Europe suggests that the government may back down on its plans to abandon electronic voting in the Commons. (See 9.35am.) Blanchard writes:

Could some sort of government climbdown yet be on the cards? Word is that [Jacob] Rees-Mogg got a rough ride from MPs on the Tories’ backbench 1922 committee last night, and Playbook notes that certain government officials now seem remarkably keen to, erm, socially distances themselves from this whole plan. “Nobody in government knew about this until it was announced,” one senior government official claimed last night. An opposition staffer reckons Boris Johnson privately told SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford at a meeting of opposition leaders last week that he, too, had not been made aware of the problems with how all this would work. (Politics Live, Guardian - my emphasis)
If the bolded bit, above, is true just how stupid is Boris Johnson?

Very.

The queue for the lobbies would be 1km long, apparently, winding round the corridors. If Johnson is stupid, what does that make JRM?

The Office for National Statistics said there have been 286,759 deaths to date in England and Wales this year - 51,466 more than the five-year average.

Of the deaths registered by 22 May, 43,837 mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate, which was 15.3% of all deaths.

Who would ever have imagined that JRM - of all people - would possibly have come up with something so totally asinine?

Suffice to say that headlines won't be much in JRM's favour tomorrow.

There might just be enough unhappy Tory MPs for there to be a chance of a rethink here, I would have thought.

you reckon the Tory brand might go off for some MPs and they leave the party?

I was having a beer in the woods a couple of hours ago and began to see these weird big dark things in the sky, I can't quite remember what they're called, I think I recall seeing them as a child, anyway they've multiplied and the sky is now almost totally black, it's all rather ominous.

And they are forecast to result in some rather strange wet stuff landing on the ground in the next 24 hours.

For anyone who hasn't seen it this just encapsulates how fucked up the United States of America is.

So this guy, who was earlier filmed threatening protesters with a machete in Salt Lake City, later turns up with a hunting bow, aims it at people before apparently trying to shoot someone with it before getting the shit kicked out of him.

https://twitter.com/Gingersonfire/statu ... wsrc%5Etfw

His car is then vandalised, rolled over and set on fire before he's interviewed on TV claiming he'd been trying to reasonably persuade the protesters that 'all lives matter' before 'two black African Americans' beat him through the open window of his car.

https://twitter.com/_AdamFitzgerald/sta ... 3773405186

As far as anyone can tell this man has not been arrested while peaceful protester are beaten and teargassed so Trump can walk across the street.

Oh and of course we had the ludicrous spectacle today of the Tory party making everyone queue round the block to deny any MP's who aren't fit and young the right to vote just so their rapidly deflating balloon of a leader can have his braying mob back.

But the problem they have is Johnson has already shot his bolt. Blowing his priapic ace on Cummings has resulted in widespread national disgust and bunch of braying halfwits behind him will never remove that stain.

(Edit: an extra 'n' had sneaked in)

With only 50 MPs allowed in the Commons before and only 50 MPs being allowed now, getting Johnson's braying mob back does not appear to be the aim of today's lunacy. Which is deeply, deeply worrying as the only logical conclusion is that today was an exercise in attempting to limit parliament and undermine democracy purely to see if they could and it seems they can.

As far as I understand it up until now most MP's haven't returned to their London homes so it's not just the 2 metre rule that's left Johnson bereft of his mob, it's that most Tory MP's have been away in their mansions/castles/shooting estates/torture dungeons. Rees-Mogg would seem to be attempting to corral them back to London so the empty benches behind the shambling bag of shite that is our prime minister are at least as heavily populated as they can be.

What am I supposed to do about 60,000 excess deaths?

What am I supposed to do about a U.S President who thinks the army should be brought to bear against protestors.

I tried politics. It didn't work.

Which is why I'm here.

Like the rest of you.
