Wow. Some local directors of public health only heard about the change to the rules last night by switching on the TV. These are the people responsible for controlling the virus in their locality.

• Allyson Pollock is professor of public health research and policy at Queen Mary University of London and author of NHS plc: the Privatisation of Our Health Care“” That’s the immediate priority – as an absolute minimum. But more broadly, the public knows this is not a good way to run contact tracing, and it is for all of these reasons that over two-thirds of those surveyed believe local public health teams and local health services should be in charge of the contact tracing system.
The Independent Sage group has already offered a solution that Hancock could take up easily. Put local authorities, local public health teams and local health services (including GPs and NHS laboratories) back in charge of testing and tracing in the community, and give them the resources to do this properly over the coming months and years. This is the system Wales and Scotland have opted for, as has Germany. That would be a test, track and trace programme the public could have faith in. “”
https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/dark-m ... st-change/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;“” The British government has spent more than £5.5 billion of taxpayers’ money on personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Was it well spent? We have no way of knowing.
Not even a seventh of the government’s 600 PPE contracts have been published – meaning the public doesn’t know why a company was selected, what it is supposed to provide, who it is owned by, and whether it is solvent or suitably experienced.
....
Overall, public contracting in the UK is now worth an estimated £292 billion annually – one-third of the entire budget – and is one of the most strategically significant areas of government. What the coronavirus crisis shows is that we know too little about who the government pays to do what, and whether it works. “”

£100k is simply not enough for an established political pundit to do the job - who'd hire you afterwards when you're just seen as parroting out the government line all the time?No 10's new spokesperson job is the ultimate poisoned chalice
I can’t imagine why anyone would want to become Boris Johnson's new televised spin doctor – and I’m one of the favourites for the job

Was there someone in the Department of health who finally read a briefing note at from a civil servant at 9 o'clock last night & ran to Hancock shouting "Shit, it's Eid tomorrow"

In an ongoing survey of more than 70,000 adults, researchers from University College London found that about 45% of respondents said they had a “broad understanding” of the current rules in England, with only 14% saying they understand the rules completely now lockdown has eased.

'help you trace your recent contacts'
People having tested positive with COVID-19 indicating who they've been in contact with recently is fine if well enough to do so but the way this tweet is worded makes it seem like it's the responsibility of infected people carrying out track and trace.
I read this one this morning --We are experiencing very high demand for testing at the moment. Please try again tomorrow.
More tests, both for drive-through sites and home delivery, will be made available tomorrow. Please visit this page then.
If your condition gets worse, or you do not get better after 7 days, use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service. Only call 111 if you cannot get help online. For a medical emergency, dial 999.

As Emma can’t drive, and social distancing meant getting a lift was impossible, she opted for the mail-order kit.
Emma made three attempts to access a Home Testing Kit. Each time she was told her identity couldn’t be verified and therefore she would not receive her test. Instead she was told to attend a drive-through testing centre.
“I thought I might have the virus so I tried to get a test,” Emma told openDemocracy.”In the process I learned in order to get a test you have to have a car you are capable of driving, or a credit check company needs to verify your identity.”
The identity verification for the NHS’s contact tracing programme is contracted to TransUnion, a US company who told openDemocracy they are “supporting the NHS response to the current pandemic in its provision of testing kits to those throughout the UK th

I was supposed to be visiting a friend in Calderdale this Sunday and am seriously confused as to why Leeds has escaped this ban on visiting while Calderdale has a far lower infection rate. It makes a nonsense of the idea this is all down to Eid. Calderdale has a tiny Muslim population, there are more Muslims across the road from me than in the entirety of Halifax and Queensbury combined. Not that it stopped that idiot Tory MP from Calder Valley blaming it on those people. It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, which comes as no surprise.gilsey wrote:My niece and her family from Edinburgh are visiting my nephew and his family in Leeds for a few days, if he lived in Bradford instead of Leeds they'd have had to turn round & go back home again.
