Good morning.

Boris Johnson moves to seize control of schools agenda after exams chaos

I'm sure we're all greatly reassured.

Morning all.

You can see the narrative building up...

"We want all children back in school!"
"OK, we've been preparing for that"
"No, you don't understand...we want all children back in school!"
"yes, that's what we - the schools - have been preparing for"
"But we want all children back in schools. And I've taken personal charge of this!"
"OK"

*children go back to school"

"Look what I've done - I've got all children back to school! All on my own."

Edit - posted that without seeing the above...

How many times has he "taken charge" of things now? And has anybody ever noticed an actual difference??

ROT last night -- Nick Cohen @NickCohen4
Conspiracy theorists never understand that successful newspapers follow their readers. It's not such a hard idea: all businesses give their customers what they want. The fact that the Mail is turning on Johnson tells me that opinion is shifting in Tory England
2:14 PM · Aug 23, 2020·Twitter for Android
Talking of conspiracy theories, there's a batshit crazy one in the last sentence here --
The Anglo-Saxon world is not so different from Poland and Hungary. Britain has handled Covid-19 so disastrously because only servile nobodies, willing to pretend that a no-deal Brexit would not harm the country, could gain admittance to Boris Johnson’s cabinet. As Johnson politicises the public sector, showing “fear of the liar” looks like becoming the best way to secure a job in the higher ranks of the civil service as well. American Republicans have had to go along with every lie Trump has told since his birther slur on Barack Obama. As for breaking friendships, British Jews broke theirs when they watched friends in Labour cheer on Jeremy Corbyn and thought: “If they ever came for me and my family, you would stand by, wouldn’t you?”
Arachnophobia is very real to sufferers, and I class this extreme Corbynophobia as a similar mental disorder. WHO seriously believes that a JC government would lead to pogroms ?

But apparently Nick Cohen does !

Cohen was a complete disgrace over Corbyn, one of the very worst. He reportedly has some "interesting" personal habits too.

Former lefties can make a good living in the media by attacking their ex-comrades - I'd do it myself if the price was right.

Greetings from my brother's PC where everything's weird and wrong.

He's off on holiday for the week before going back to school to catch Covid 19 from his pupils so I'm here looking after his and his girlfriend's chickens.

"Wow would you look at that gorgeous moth feeding on those flowers, I wonder what kind of moth it is I've never seen one like that before...oh hello chicken, don't peck that...noooo!!!"

They're used to being let out of their coop first thing in the morning and protest noisily if this doesn't happen, whereas I don't usually get up until about 10.30 at the earliest so the neighbours are in for a fun week. But they're brexiters so fuck 'em.

I was at a little goth night in Leeds years ago during the time Nick Cohen was supporting the Iraq war as part of the self proclaimed 'decent Left' when in came an Observer photographer to take pictures for an article. He asked if he could take a picture of me and I said 'Only if you promise to punch Nick Cohen in the face' which he refused to do so when our little goth gathering was immortalised in a glossy Sunday supplement I was nowhere to be seen. Not that I minded, my hair looked shit that night.

Just to clarify it was the gathering that was small, it wasn't a night for diminutive goths.

You know education in this country is up shit creek when on Newsnight, to offer a counterpoint to Gavin Williamson looking like he was about to start crying at any second they went to David Laws who if he had been fiddling housing benefit rather than parliamentary expenses would still be in jail.

Actually not just education, it was a little taste of everything that's wrong with the banana republic England has become.

To be fair to Laws he does actually chair the Education Policy Institute which has some pretty smart people - a couple of whom are ex DfE. It used to be called something else which was more explicitly tied to the Lib Dems but they renamed i to distance themselves.

Oh well.

It may be a Monday night but tomorrow looks like a complete write off for those of us on a semi-holiday. I probably wont let the chickens out in the morning for fear of them being hit by lightning. I wonder how that would taste.

For all those tiny goths out there.

Indeed, and as an ex Lib-Dem you'd think I be sympathetic to that view, but he's only in that position because he was treated differently to anyone else in this country fiddling their rent expenses because at that time he was a minister in the Coalition. How many other benefit fraudsters get invited to head 'think tanks'?
