Independent front page - Coalition's 'lamentable' child poverty failure

You mean those benefits weren't causing the poverty? I'm amazed.

More than £1m of taxpayers’ money has been spent on proposals for free schools that never opened.
That's not all that much money in the context of the whole nonsense. I wonder how much that laughable Oldham military school wasted.

The performance figures are however damning.

You spend stupid cash on them and they perform less well than LA schools.

I bet if you normalised for spend per child it would look really awful.

Fundamentally the only function of a free school is to pay Tory donors to play at being teacher. A sort of state sponsored fantasy for swivel eyed loons.

Oh yes, the overall figures are very damning.

Just saying that in the context of those, £1m on going through all the failed applications isn't very much.

Add on the money that was gifted to New Schools Network for work that should have been done by the DfE staff.

BTW Toady's still repeating the lie...
Toby Young @toadmeister · 23h 23 hours ago
@afneil @HildaPalmer Three-quarters of free schools inspected by Ofsted have been ranked "Good" or "Outstanding", above national average
https://twitter.com/toadmeister/status/ ... 9815891968

DfE have already admitted that the figures aren't comparable because re-inspections of existing schools are aimed at low achievers and not outstanding ones..

And that three-quarters was for the 2011 opening only - it's now 69.6% for 2011 and 2012 opening combined. Lying sod.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

That is a stonkingly good statement from them .... I'd expect no less from such a talented bunch. Should be essential reading for all MPs - and especially IDS, Freud and McVey. If they won't read it ... it should be audio piped into their every waking moment.

Rip up five-year parliaments act, Cameron told by MPs: Revolt brewing over controversial fixed-term rule that's a 'recipe for endless coalition'
David Cameron faces pressure to scrap government's fixed-term ruling
It would mean general elections only take place once every five years
Legislation would make it all but impossible to run a minority government
MP Mark Harper said PMs would need to win 'super majority' of two-thirds
Critics say legislation is a recipe for 'never-ending coalition government'

   Cameron really does bring it on himself ... acts in unseemly haste to stitch up electoral timings ... now will have to repent in bed with Nick or Nige .... (ghastly image - but one he planted in his 'keynote' conference speech).
Working on the wild side.

BBC desperate to excuse Freud on Westminster Hour, presenter obvious attempt to dismiss any points Lisa Tandy's contrary to the media collusive narrative, making a complaint.

Yes, I heard that. And Andrew Neil and Stephen Nolan, all accusing Labour of playing politics and insisting that a fair person could only take the most charitable interpretation of his remarks. Expecting balance from the BBC these days is like expecting a white Christmas; you get it occasionally but by and large you don't.

Actually if they were push polling questions the polling organisation concerned may be crossing a line. In which case Reckless could probably complain to their professional body.

It won't matter UKIP have it in the bag. Why Cameron has made such a huge deal of an irrelevant contest is beyond me.
