Despite the surprise increase in the deficit, a spokesman for the Treasury said the “government’s long-term economic plan is working”, with the UK economy growing faster than that of its G7 peers.

Thank you. The comments are hilarious - a very few unintentionally so. Although, because I haven't heard the song, I worry that I'm being unfair to Mike Read. The song may be a musical and lyrical masterpiece. If things go as planned, I'll never know.

There does seem to be a fight back, as there bloody well should be, Hunt doesn't mention the 8,000 patients from England who cross over the border to Wales for treatment I notice, besides the two countries share a border, it probably makes sense for patients who live close to it to go to the nearest place for treatment, it can work both ways, why make capital out of it?

Potentially excellent news from Tyne and Wear.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... lation-bus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Tyne and Wear has voted to press ahead with reforms that will mean bus services outside London being taken back under public control for the first time since privatisation.
Interesting to note that Labour did legislate for this being able to happen in 2000, but apparently with "hoops".

Worth recalling that Labour did lose control of some cities where this would have been an obvious winner. eg Liverpool from 1998-2010.

On a day when it seems our nation is sinking to new lows this felt a timely reminder.

Cleansing the stock.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... le-killing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry, Ohso, we must have seen this at the same time. It bears saying twice, so I've left it.

(It is now politically incorrect to indicate nausea/bleeding ears/mention Relax or bad hair in response to UKIP Calypso. To do so apparently infringes the right to free speech and means the commenter is a nazi or even worse a leftie, or Green Peace. It's all a good bit of British fun, and we should laugh as we share it widely, so everyone can really enjoy its innocent form of parody of our true national beliefs, otherwise we are worse than the Chinese and the Japanese, or even Saddam Hussain, and isn't that Farage man a good egg, and leave Mike Read alone he can be as talentless as he likes, if you're British you've got a right.)

A response to what turned up on my social media uninvited. A win for Mr Farage in some quarters then. His Polish dalliance seems to have completely passed these idiots by.

Rebecca loved 'a response'; how calypso commentary should be!

I see the Telegraph is stripping out another 55 jobs according the update at the bottom. That might well explain why the blogs have seemed woefully sparse and samey for quite a while. Maybe people are scurrying around looking for alternative paid work. Can't see why Hodges should survive ... but you may well be right, he does seem to be teflon doom-proofed.

Hard to disagree with @genrentuk: Insane we spend £1bn on building social housing and £24bn on Housing Benefit #PreventionBetterThanCure
I find Tim Montgomerie hard to fathom ... he seems to be a rare thing these days ... a Tory who seems to still have a bit of commonsense and compassion and isn't afraid to show them. But why doesn't he call out the insanity or, to be more accurate, obscenity that is the vast amounts of housing benefit going to Tory MPs with rental empires (OK, there's probably some Lib Dem and Labour ones benefiting that way as well)?

I think it might be a bit less cringey-scary than that (can you imagine the damage he might do as a writer anywhere near Ed's team?????) - the Zelo Street report seems to say he is out of the country so he might, just might, be enjoying himself a bit and the chip on his shoulder has temporarily softened. He might actually be nearer to his darling - the other brother - wherever he is.

Ah - the question I've been dreading.

It's not good news. We took her away with us to Gloucestershire last week - still coming to terms with having been told she is on the brink of kidney failure .......... we don't know how long she has got - however long it is we are going to make the most of it with and for her. We are spoiling her rotten.

This is something that has come about because of the horrific treatment she endured before she was rescued. I could do unspeakable things to the people that abuse animals in that way.

Meanwhile she is an absolute cheeky delight and we hope to keep it that way for a while.

A slightly odd request, but I'd guess some of our Hampshire brethren may be able to help.

There's a chap in UKIP who's promising the earth to a musician I know, and I mean The Earth, to perform, yes, another one, a UKIP song.

It is patently bollocks, but she thinks this is the big breakthrough, a life-changing deal. Her friends and band mates are very worried indeed. I won't name the kipper concerned, but think French king and the first bit of Swaledale in the plural.

You can PM me to continue the subterfuge if you like.

I just don't want some egocentric tosspot googling his name and finding this - which prompts this request...DON'T MENTION HIS NAME IN ANY REPLIES.

Thank you, delicate situation.

He isn't complaining about Ed Miliband !
For once, he's mostly right in his article, and, as per usual, BTL it's mostly insane, starry eyed UKIPers. Gruesome doesn't even begin to cover it...

Screw it, take the money (bank the cheque before the performance) then go on TV to denounce the party and claim you did it for the cash and to expose them for the racist scum they are.
Well quite. Except we don't think the money is going to there at all, despite all the promises.

It is ok, his latest is a whinge about the mansion tax and how it is going to finish Ed.

Can we tweet him with.

Dan, you called for PM take on Farage, instead he panders to him. Wake up - Cameron is the problem not the solution.

Lib Dem's general election 'red lines' leaked
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 09276.html
The only line the Lib Dems seem to have held good to .... has been their supine obeisance to supporting the coalition come what may - even when it supposedly goes against everything they formerly espoused, or is clearly a punishment dressed up as a policy. Their red line has been holding on to power at all costs.

Anyone who would think they would behave any differently in a future coalition ... really is a fool.

This bit is on top of the supposed red lines ...
The document captured on camera reveals that the Lib Dems will call for claimants for Jobseekers' Allowance to undergo English tests, and those assessed as "poor" would face benefit cuts unless they agree to take lessons. Under-21s would pay just a third of their bus fares to college or work and at least one GP in every area would open from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.
There has already been a huge reduction in the availability of English Language classes .... where is the money going to come from? I shudder to think what kind of English Language lessons the private work fare providers might provide - given their record in job seeking and skills support.

And that under-21s only paying a third for their bus fares to college or work (how do you prove that?) is really going to make up for the £50,000+ debt they'll be in by the time they are 22.

Besides which I'm fairly sure anyone who is a student can already get a discounted bus fare. That's how it's worked for decades in my neck of the wood anyway.

Mr Ohso was in music for a long, long time. Money up front...Otherwise bye, bye.
