The Trump administration is reportedly considering labelling a number of leading international humanitarian organisations as antisemitic after they documented Israeli rights abuses against Palestinians, including settlement building in the occupied territories.

The groups include the UK-based Amnesty International and Oxfam as well as the US organisation Human Rights Watch. Amnesty International accused the Trump administration, and the secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, of attempting “to silence and intimidate international human rights organisations”.

If you fail to understand what antisemitism is, you are not really going to be able to fight it properly.

Blast from the past last night with Louise Casey on our TV screens. When even she thinks this government are being mean, its a pretty safe bet that they are.

Sounds like @RishiSunak is basically amending his jobs plan to meet the exact criticisms that @TorstenBell and the @resfoundation (and Labour) pointed out when he launched them.
No doubt you'll need a microscope to see the criticism in the media.

They could actually have consulted the RF before they started and saved even that little embarrassment.

Well it seems Ren-tool has already set the benchmark there, criticising Dodds for the "tone" of her response as if that is all that matters.

I guess it's kind of understandable. With so many testing positive, the work to trace contacts will be far greater. Which is why the government should have listened to Sage advice and used a circuit breaker 4 weeks ago to prevent us getting to this point.

And the head in the sand denial over schools and colleges has to stop. The CDC are now issuing advice that asymptomatic spread is happening when people are spending any length of time together without masks.

Maybe it should be pointed out more that both Scotland and Wales are doing something on the school meals front?

The COVID-19 pandemic is responsible for increasing deaths globally. Most estimates have focused on numbers of deaths, with little direct quantification of years of life lost through COVID-19. As most people dying with COVID-19 are older with underlying long-term conditions, some have speculated that years of life lost are low.

Deaths from COVID-19 represent a substantial burden in terms of per-person years of life lost, more than a decade, even after adjusting for the typical number and type of long-term conditions found in people dying of COVID-19.
