Morning all.

So it appears that Gavin Williamson is lying.

Treasury rejects claims it refused extra £150m for free school meals

Treasury sources said there had been no request from the education secretary for the £150m to provide meals for 1.4 million disadvantaged pupils during the holiday.

They indicated that the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, was irritated at the suggestion his department was to blame for a row that has led to splits in the Tory party and accusations the government is failing to support some of the poorest children in the country.

“There was nothing proposed or mentioned from the Department for Education,” one source said.

I have to enjoy any bit of good news when it comes.
Looking forward to results of Phase 3.

A lot of vaccines being trialled now, you would think at least one would turn out acceptably.

Like you, cautiously optimistic on this one.

COVID-19: Time Is a Factor + Short Addendum on Ventilation
25 Oct 2020

We’ve all been washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing, but there’s something else we should know that could be just as important in preventing COVID-19. You are at risk in closed spaces, but time is a factor too! Addendum: Ventilation and filtration are key too!

Special thanks to Dr. Erin Bromage whose article, "The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them," inspired me to make the original video.

Dr. Bromage asked me to make an add-on to the previous version of this video. He said that in addition to avoiding closed spaces and minimizing the time you spend in them, we can also ventilate a room or filter the air.

I was thinking of giving that a go but now that it comes with the seal of Clanger approval I'll be procuring it forthwith.

I know Netflix and the like have had a good Covid 19, but I wonder if it's led to a rise in torrenting? You would have thought so.

Especially when UK ISP's don't seem to give a shit.

Has anyone here ever been told off for committing acts of internet thievery?

I can confirm that the actual chess scenes in QG are highly realistic. Which certainly isn't always true when films cover it.

(one thing that doesn't ring true is that the heroine hardly ever draws a game, but that was apparently the case in the book too)

And talking of rip-off media companies it really is heartening to see football fans across the country telling Sky and BT to go fuck themselves with their latest price gouging and donating the money to local foodbanks instead.

And also to see braying Tory ideologues being made to look like idiots by a 22 year old footballer tapping into a vein of compassion in English soceity I feared may be withering away to nothing.

The more they bring up their dismal shibboleths, the stronger the feeling against them seems to become. Who in their right minds thinks providing meals for poor kids during school holidays in the middle of a pandemic encourages 'welfare dependancy'? Besides a few nutters on the Tory back benches nobody thinks giving kids a sandwich and an apple is 'nationalising' them. No matter how much these libertarian clowns would like to wish it this isn't the U.S, and despite all the right wing attacks on our Social Security system most people still think kids should be fed, even if they live in a 'crack den'.

There's been a lot to be depressed and angry about over the last year and there's more to come, but this backlash against Tory ideology, from across English soceity, is surely something to bring a bit of cheer.

That's basically it, to be honest. I wrote a music blog, I did a post called 'three minute heroes' with about half a dozen songs that were exactly 3 minutes long, one of which was 'Chain of Love' by The Undertones. Terry Hooley emailed me to say "Don't give our music away - take that link down'. I did.

The only other - admittedly much more obscure - artist connection I had was when I posted something by Patrik Fitzgerald he emailed me to ask if I could send him mp3s of any of his songs as he didn't have them. Tracey Thorn's label sent me a copy of her new solo album after I wrote about her vocal on 'Protection' with Massive Attack and Marco Mahler (who? - ed) quoted me as one of the reviews he put on his website for an album release.

There is a longer version of this next bit but the short straightforward version is that some things didn't work out and I deleted everything. I started again and then eventually deleted all of that too. A bit of the old one and a lot of the later one are on the wayback machine.

And yet we find ourselves in a situation where bands are losing money even when touring.

A friend of mine is in a band called Cowtown and she told me that Covid has meant that she's saved money.
