He's completely blameless about the NHS' shortcomings, of course.

Oh dear, the Conservative Woman is not happy...

My letter to Michael Gove

I hold no brief for Mr Johnson, who I long suspected to be a man with little principle, now seemingly a man who is also easily spooked and dominated. You, I thought, were different – not one to fall for Leftist authoritarianism or for NHS emoting claptrap. I thought you were honourable.

And you have to wonder about someone who thinks that Toby Young's advice is the line that should be followed...

Good morfternoon.

Is Rishi Sunak's decision to send in Stephen Barclay to answer the urgent question to the Treasury an indication that he's aware that not only is his star now somewhat tarnished, but that Labour now has its firepower trained on him, and has thus decided to keep his head down?

Quite possibly.

As an aside here, its notable how certain hacks don't like Dodds questioning Sunak (in both a metaphorical and even literal sense)

I wonder why that might be?

Hard to think of a political decision in recent history where there was so obviously a right and wrong choice.

Racism, sexism, nepotism, corruption, fraud, pro-violence, pro-sexual violence, anti-science, anti-democracy & responsibility for 100,000s of deaths.

I even missed my swim so hope that I'm OK for tomorrow - last chance...

Its not over till its over......

I was moderately optimistic about last year's election here, even on polling day.

That will teach me.

I've had the 'moderately optimistic' well and truly knocked out of me.

Biden's polling is better than Clinton's but his poll leads in states like Florida are well within the margin of error so this could go very badly indeed. He's still odds on favourite and has more routes to victory than Trump but as we saw last time that can be an illusory advantage.

One thing's for sure, if Trump loses Florida he's toast, whereas Biden can lose there but still win, so this could all be over very quickly or drag on for days and weeks while Trump whines and bitches about postal votes and anything else he can think of to cling on to power.

Biden's 'Kinnock Plagiariasm' Controversy - 1988
I started thinking as I was coming over here, why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go to a university? [Pointing to his wife in the audience:] Why is it that my wife who is sitting out there in the audience is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? Is it because I'm the first Biden in a thousand generations to get a college and a graduate degree that I was smarter than the rest?

Homeowner Arlene Hopkins, 66, a retired pharmaceutical saleswoman, praised Trump for his handling of the economy. Hopkins is however fundamentally a single-issue voter: “The main reason I would never vote for Joe Biden is because I am a practicing Catholic and abortion is considered intrinsically evil. That’s why I will never even consider voting for the Democratic party which is pro-abortion.”

Catholicism may need a rethink.

That was Kinnock's best speech, and still one of *the* best in my political lifetime.

Certainly knocks spots off that massively overrated 1985 effort.

(which was of course exhumed yet again with the Labour news a few days ago, its only 35 years ago now guys)

This is interesting from 538- a video going through the 'what if' of polling being as wrong as last time. Short answer - Biden still wins. Tweak it a point fiurther wrong than last time - Biden still wins, by a whisker.

That's Biden who would be the USA's second ever Catholic president.

I only "know" the Kennedys from what I've read but, on paper, I much prefer Robert Kennedy's politics to those of JFK. I'm sure you've all been waiting for me to impart that piece of information, so your wait is over.

Nate Silver says the first interesting county they've seen actual votes for in Florida looks good for Biden. (Edit - actually he says 'promising' - Trump won last time by about a point - flipping that - yes, yes, just in one county - would be close to the proportionate margin for the state last time.)

Edit again- followed up by miama-dade, won by 30 points by clinton, seeing biden just 9 points ahead in early counting

I'm watching Sky at the moment, although Dermot Murnaghan is, as usual, extremely irritating. I don't find Andrew Neil's hair soothing, however - so, what to do?

Joe Biden tipped to win Vermont. There's a surprise. That's virtually a communist state in American terms, isn't it?

I tried the BBC for a while, and had trouble finding Andrew Neil's hair at all - let alone finding it soothing. I'll try the cow trick.
