Morning.

Are we there yet?

Stupid question :)

(I'm hearing Pennsylvania could go Biden today and finish it, which would be nice).

BOOM. Twitter has suspended Steve Bannon’s show. Bannon had just earlier advocated for the beheading of Fauci and FBI Director Wray. Good move for Twitter—but will YouTube follow?

If anyone needs an almost complete distraction, here's a podcast about farming, Jeremy Paxman with James Rebanks. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet but it's great fun hearing Paxman getting his backside handed to him.

I see there's also one with everyone's favourite educationalist, Birbalsingh.

One of the few successful legal moves by the POTUS has slightly delayed things, I think.

'Time for a cool head': Germany urges Trump to be calm, while UK stays silent

Germany led European calls for Donald Trump to end his claim that the American election was fraudulent, urging the president and his followers to stop “pouring oil” on the tense situation in the US and noting that “decent losers” were vital to upholding democracy.

In the UK ministers continued to refuse to comment on the election, or Donald Trump’s claims that it was fraudulent.

The UK shadow justice minister, David Lammy, said: “Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab’s silence as Donald Trump attempts to undermine the American people’s right to free and fair elections is a national disgrace. We must have the courage to stand up for democracy whoever attacks it. No exceptions.”(Guardian)
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ays-silent

Even if, God forbid, Donald Trump somehow still won there's absolutely no justification for the UK Government not to condemn his attacks on the democratic system. I hope they get their comeuppance for this shameful (and shaming) episode.

This may be the funniest and most terrifying thing, I ever heard reported: White House aides are "scoping possible conduits" in Trump's family/inner circle, effectively to "stage an intervention", designed to bring the PoTUS round to the possibility he may have lost the election.

If Trump takes Alaska and NC and Biden the rest then the electoral college count - 306/232 - will have flipped from Rep to Dem exactly since last time.

When Reagan was first elected 40 years ago, Biden had already served 8 years in the Senate.

Eric is announcing that his dad should go to war (with...? the democrats? election officals? the states? ) to put this right and any Republican that doesn't stand with him will have their card marked for next time.

Told you Trump would only win North Carolina. *smug*

Which makes any legal shit flinging doubly fruitless.

Not that that's stopping Fox News making all sorts of fact free accusations of fraud despite their own pet election lawyers telling them there's no evidence and it'll make no difference to the result. For Trump and his acolytes it's already clear they're going to insist he's been cheated out of the Presidency and never accept this result.

The thing is, a lot of the GOP would use that as the excuse many of them are looking for to cut him and his claque loose.

After all, they have now "got" the Supreme Court and (probably) the Senate - from a cynical standpoint, Trump has now outlived his usefulness to them?

That's what I thought, but listening to GOP commentators they're saying because Trump increased the Republican turnout which helped elect their Senators/Repesentatives it's going to be very difficult for them to get rid of him.

Elsewhere, another great quote of the day comes from Cardinal Nichols, head of the Catholic church in the UK, who tells us that a ban on church services is not supported by the science.
The Catholic Church are very worried about you all reading The Da Vinci Code. And in fact, in January last year, the Vatican actually issued an official statement reminding Dan Brown readers that the books are largely fictional and full of historically unverifiable information...

From the G just now:
Let’s check in with Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former adviser who is now facing fraud charges over allegations he misused money that was meant to help build a wall along the US-Mexican border.

Bannon has now lost his lawyer in the fraud case after suggesting Dr Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded.

I know it's not relevant to the outcome as such but what's the score with Alaska? It's got a population the size of Leeds but in 500 days (or however many it's been since the vote) it has has only counted half of its votes.

It's too cold for finngerless gloves so it's much more awkward to count the ballot papers.

Perhaps Sarah Palin's doing the counting and has run out of fingers and toes.

There should be a bunch more votes from Nevada at around midnight. The general consensus seems to be that if they hadn't called Arizona early and so made Nevada the decisive result it would definitely have been called for Biden by now.
