Pressed on the absence of masks, Hancock eventually said they were not always worn around No 10. Different workplaces have different rules, according to what is appropriate there.”

Tucked away at the end of the BBC report is the real explanation.

Radio 4 speaking about Lewis Hamilton’s public political positions “people might see this as just publicity-seeking virtue-signalling” uh...

How can it be "virtue-signalling" when you're talking about something that's affected yourself directly? Or are they suggesting that motorsport wasn't an almost exclusively white sport, dominated by the better off, rather like golf, when he started out as a working class, black kid in karting? That he hasn't faced hurdles others don't because of his race throughout his career? Or is it, having faced all that and succeeded anyway, and been allowed in "the club", considered bad form to talk about the hoops he's had to jump through to get there and want to make things easier for those following in his footsteps?

Un-friggin-believable.

The 'virtue signalling' bit is infuriating, but the 'publicity seeking' bit is ludicrous.
