The same is true today.

The real question judges ask themselves, a question thrust upon them by the disinclination of the Government to constitutional politness, is: if we will not guard against the conduct of the Government, and no one else can, then what is left?

Afternoon all.

Go-between paid £21m in taxpayer funds for NHS PPE

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54974373" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A Spanish businessman who acted as a go-between to secure protective garments for NHS staff in the coronavirus pandemic was paid $28m (£21m) in UK taxpayer cash.

The consultant had been in line for a further $20m of UK public funds, documents filed in a US court reveal.

The legal papers also reveal the American supplier of the PPE called the deals "lucrative".

The Department of Health said proper checks are done for all contracts.

Presumably this would only be the case if we sign an actual deal. So it makes little difference to the basic choice of "no deal" chaos in January or caving to the EU's red lines and signing a deal. Unless this is going to masquerade as Johnson’s big "win" to cover up for the fact that he's crumbled and signed a deal the EU's had on the table since the beginning

Schools have been told to stock up on longer shelf life products in preparation for a no-deal Brexit... .

Department for Education (DfE) guidance published on Tuesday urged schools to prepare for what was described as “possible changes to their food supply chain” from 1 January “so they can minimise the effect on pupils and young people in their care”.

Stressing that schools would still be responsible for meeting children’s dietary requirements, the guidance said necessary changes might include “varying the timing and number of deliveries to allow for transport delays” and “ordering longer shelf life products during this period, such as frozen foods or foods that can be safely stored at room temperature”.

In theory, if we all sat still for two weeks, the virus would die off.
Instead, we're going to spend 5 years wrestling with this thing.

The gov could give every adult 2k a week and tell everyone to sit still from now until [20 January 2021] and we would be in a much better place then.

Anger in North Dakota after governor asks Covid-positive health workers to keep working
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... oronavirus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm fortunate I'm not a healthcare worker in North Dakota right now and so is North Dakota's governor.
Had Doug Burgum asked this of me I'd have used a not inconsiderable amount of profanity responding to his request.

It's a bit like how what was meant to be an 'implementation period' of of a deal that had been made became a 'transition period' towards a deal which didn't exist yet.
