Morning all.

I see that the £1.5bn dividend paid by Philip Green to his wife has cropped up again.

I looked at this at the time and thought that there was no cash involved but it was merely a way of facilitating an offshore company (i.e. Mrs Green in Monaco) to be able to lend a UK company money, so that when the interest was paid by the UK company it depressed UK profits and therefore lower its tax payment, and increased the offshore company ones with zero tax.

Fairly ingenious but think the UK tax authorities take a dim view of that sort of stuff now.

Remarkably, votes for the US election last month are still being confirmed. Biden now on around 81 million, 7 million ahead of Trump.

So now József Szájer (Orban's favourite politician) is in the news, worth revisiting this event with him, Andrew Neil, David Goodhart and Douglas Murray at the Hungarian Embassy two years ago.

Yes, that's the same József Szájer that attempted to escape from a sex party along a gutter with drugs in his backback...all about mixing with the right people right?

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

I think this is a really good interview. Clive Lewis with Owen Jones.

Also on Covid and the state of our country this from, of all outlets, the BBC:

This is a good piece tucked away down the guardian's homepage

Brexit fishing gamble suggests No 10 forgot its economics homework
Lord Liddle, a veteran of European trade negotiations who advised Peter Mandelson when the latter was the EU’s trade commissioner, said Brussels’ negotiators will have organised their strategy around offensive and defensive interests. That approach does not seem to have been mirrored on the UK side, with the British government giving up on securing favourable rules of origin – which decide whether cars made with imported parts will attract tariffs – while holding firm on fishing.

“To have ended up with this great row about fishing suggests to me they haven’t made those calculations,” he said.
It really is the case that that our government simply haven't been concerned with reality at all in any of this. 'My policy on cake is pro having it and pro eating it' genuinely has been the plan - that 27 other countries really would put our wants and needs above their own, and give us a free pass because we thought we deserved it.

Leading humanity's charge against hunger I made a Chorizo Rigatoni earlier.

The tomatoes, pasta and Mozzarella were Italian, the Chorizo was from from Spain and the wine was French.

Nadine Dorries had been scrounging around like she does begging for scraps so I took pity on her and put some on a plate and left it outside.

After she'd eaten it she started running around the garden screaming and yelling that it was a 'triumph for brexit' and started waving her Union Jack knickers around her head. We had to catch her in a net and pacify her with a rag soaked in Bovril.

It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't dig holes and crap in my flower bed.

Next time I'll turn the hose on her.

Get me a decent bottle of wine and you're welcome to do a Fantastic Voyage in my brain any time as long as I get to meet 1960's Raquel Welch after you're done. And if you could fix a few things while you're in there I'd much appreciate it.

Not much to report from Newsnight, a swift crushing of the vaccine approval brexit boon nonsense which to be fair even Johnson didn't indulge in, complaints from care homes but again to be fair this vaccine needs to be at -70° C and can only be moved 3 times so getting it to hospitals is the obvious thing to do, and a general huzzah from their expert guests.

No mention of what's going to happen after January the 1'st when it's going to get a lot harder to get such things into the country. The cynic in me does wonder if pressure was put on the MHRA to approve this early so we could get as much in before eveything goes arse over tits.

Please vaccinate me now.

I miss seeing friends, I miss going to the pub, I miss going to gigs, I miss visiting my parents without fear of killing them, I miss getting on a train and not being a judgemental twat, I miss having a life.

What I don't miss is buses, not having got on a bus in 9 months is a joy, not all buses mind you. In Leeds we're forced to use First Bus who run dirty, smelly old diesel monstrosities that stink and rattle your bones at the slightest bump in the road. I remember the first time I visited Hindle and caught a bus in Derbyshire and it was like I was riding on a silent magic carpet, apart from the drunk chavs at the back.

And I don't miss being part of a crowd. I never enjoyed it anyway. Small gig with a couple of hundred at most fine, but anything more than that no.

I trust we're all going to accept the needle?

I won't even qualify until April at the very bottom of the list.

Which I guess in one sense is good, I doubt many assessors for the DWP are going to be keen to sit in a room for half an hour with anyone who could give them Covid.

I'm almost at the bottom of the list, too. Which is kind of good because it means that I can be cowardly, guilt-free, and await the EU's additional seal of approval on the vaccine (end of December).
