Somone btl at guardian is saying how no deal on january 1st will finally bring to an end a hostile occupation that began in 1066. And I'm pretty sure he's not being sarcastic or satirical.
ETA - obviously those vikings and anglo-saxons and romans and so on were proper british. Not like the french.
