In its way. But reading between the lines this is just Lib Dem fanboy (and faux socialist) Harris trying to stir it.

Anything to keep the Lib Dems in power.

I had hopes for Harris; during the run up to the Health and Social Care Bill, he was virtually the only Graun scribbler speaking out against it (even Polly & Zoe were oddly silent until almost the last minute). But since then he has, as you say, reverted to type as a Clegg fanboi; presumably Rusbridger sent the messrs Watt, Kettle & Wintour round to have a "chat" with him.

"Alec Salmond gone (as in out of public eye)? No chance, he's not going to go off and twiddle his thumbs" - so more of a compliment I think...but my translation skills may not be entirely accurate

I suppose it's too much to hope that Brown and Salmond could grow up a bit and 'take it' to their common enemy? Salmond, in the short bit I saw of QT, was passionate in his defence of the English NHS (more so, I think, than I've heard from any English politician apart from Burnham) - and his Murchydochian credentials took a bit of a hit when Uncle Rupe realised that 'Yes' had the support of Socialists and Greens.

And yesterday? The Guardian had an article about MPs outside earnings...Gordon Brown tops the list via lecturing, but, and it's a big but, the article said he doesn't actually take the earnings as pay instead they're invested in a fund for his future political career.

Attended our local scouts jumble sale this morning. If what had been donated is anything to go by, the country is indeed in a shocking state.
However, I did manage to find a few books to read. Now I'm faced with an agonising choice. Should I do some chores or go to bed for the afternoon with one of the books. Decisions, decisions...

Is that what the article said. Naughty Guardian, being disingenuous to the last.

Brown's earnings from lecturing are all paid to a limited company, The Office of Gordon & Sarah Brown. According to their website Brown takes no salary from the company - his sole income is his MP's salary (he renounced the pension he is entitled to receive as an ex-PM) - and the company pays corporation tax on all the profits; the role of the company is provide support for the charity work that both of the Brown's are involved with, including his work as UN Special Envoy for Global Education.

Rusty's mate Guido has been trying to paint this as some kind of dodgy operation for a couple of years ("this so-called charity has only given £1m to charity" .... despite knowing full well what the real situation is), but I'm surprised that the Guardian has choaen to aid & abet the whispering campaign.

Before anybody starts, none of that was evidence of partisanship. I'm a genuine admirer of the work Brown has done since 2010, including his continued efforts to secure the release of those poor girls in Nigeria kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Interesting to note the discrepancy in figures between Parkinson's and MS. The former is three times more prevalent and the average age of onset way below todays retirement age.

Makes me think a lot of families are supporting disabled partners rather than allow them to go through assessments.

I'm on my second time trying to post, if this one goes whoopsy I might just get a bit paranoid.

I'm angry today, and not in a mood to disguise it. I'm fed up that parliament has allowed the evil DWP fools to do the things they've done, and that they haven't been held to account. The country is being run like a dictatorship while government maintains a pretence of democracy.

The casualties are mounting up and we get little that acknowledges that in the mainstream. Why isn't this country more angry? It's got to the point that you would have to be sensorially deprived not to notice.

If there was ever any doubt that headlines are written to cause as much damage & click bait as possible, today's example in the Graun proves it conclusively.

First thing there were 2 articles about Lamont standing down. One said that she "resigns as Leader of Scottish Labour Party" whilst the other said she quits

The one saying has now been changed to say "Miliband barred Lamont from attacking bedroom tax for 12 months" !!

Think back to when Ed M announced that Labour would abolish the bedroom tax then ask yourself whether that headline is in any way accurate.

You have to be past caring for real response to most of them. Otherwise you get offered something so useless that you refuse. Then they shut your case down. Even the OTs are ashamed of having to deliver the stuff they do, because they remember when they delivered something real while people still had the will to live.

I don't trust the DM either.
Are they trying to scare people into becoming past caring, or is this a heads up for an new ageist agenda?

Couldn't help noticing the wrong use of 'accommodation' in this article. Even people with minor impairments will customarily need accommodations, plural, to address their needs, and those of assessment, examining boards etc. it's transactional, agreements are usually made and documented.

Nitpicking I know, but accommodation usually refers to a place in which to stay, unless it is a single item among the aforementioned accommodations. Gives the wrong impression.

I remember making a "get my coat" level gag about the NOC abbreviation during council election results in the dim and distant days before nesting and f***ing Beta.

Someone on the cricket threads managed to call me a Non Commissioned Officer the other week.
