Good morning.
This is a real tweet.

Not sure which is worse - the thought that he really is so dim that he thinks the people of Paris wrote the Paris agreement or that he calculates that his followers might think so.Senator Ted Cruz
@SenTedCruz
By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden indicates he’s more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh. This agreement will do little to affect the climate and will harm the livelihoods of Americans.

Some people are really dim, look at this

It is a mystery why he doesn't do just that, or indeed punch them on the nose. The cardiac physiologist, Birmingham
It’s bad again on the wards and in intensive care. By bad I mean that most patients have Covid-19. We have no beds. Ambulances are queueing up outside. During the first wave we cancelled most elective appointments and diagnostics, but this time we are trying to keep those services open. This means we are stretched to the absolute limit.
...............
The thing I’m finding hardest this time is actually discussions outside of work. I have family members who claim that hospitals are empty and the death rates are lies. I feel like saying: are you calling me a liar?

UK insists it will not grant EU ambassador full diplomatic status

Although the UK insists its position is not born of Euroscepticism, the UK is virtually unique in taking this position. The bloc enjoys full diplomatic status with 142 other countries around the world where it has delegations, and where its ambassadors are all granted the same status as diplomats representing sovereign nations.

It's ironic that one of the arguments for Br@xit was that the EU was essentially run as a nation state. And now the Tories are telling them that they can't have special diplomatic status because they're not a nation, just an organisation...

Interesting thread on the weakness at the heart of government.

Reminds me of Cameron getting rid of the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit which did precisely what the author is calling for...only to being something a bit like it back years later.Alex Thomas

So what to do? There’s no panacea, but there are sensible, not-entirely-original changes the PM and cabinet secretary can make. Indeed a bit more learning lessons from previous govts, and a bit less tearing up of structures that have proved their worth would be welcome

There's been some super tweets and pics of Bernie Sanders at the inauguration - I like this one.

Jimmy Carter was unable to attend yesterday's proceedings, but he is now the first POTUS to be still alive four decades after leaving office.

He wasn't a great POTUS, but it would have been a hard job for anyone at that time.

The worst cabinet minister is the one you're currently watching/listening to/thinking about.
