Personally am looking forward to the end of covid and my visit to Leeds (part of Clanger UK pub crawl) to sample live zazz.

Good evening.

Equalities minister Kemi Badenoch must apologise or be sacked, says peer

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -says-peer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Simon Woolley said the prime minister must intervene in the row over Kemi Badenoch, after a damning leaked letter sent by a No 10 adviser suggested she may have broken the ministerial code when she publicly criticised a journalist on social media.

The special adviser, Samuel Kasumu, also complained of unbearable tension within Downing Street over race and said he considered resigning over fears that the Conservatives were pursuing a “politics steeped in division”.

Following frantic interventions from ministers and senior aides including the vaccines minister, Nadhim Zahawi, Kasumu retracted his resignation on Thursday night
I found the tweets that Badenoch sent quite extraordinary.

perfect

I found a mummified reptile about that size in a window sill space. The creature had gotten trapped and climate conditions kept it perfect. It's body was in a circular position, it's head slightly raised and peaceful, it seemed to me. Feeling the warmth of the sun.

I chased a poor lizard when I was a kid and when I caught it by the tail the tail came off (they can shed them to escape predators and annoying kids).

Obviously I kept the tail and hid it in a drawer inside a cassette box thinking it would dry out and mummify. Instead it went rancid and my Mum discovered it (presumably through the use of her nose) and threw it in the bin.

I was most displeased.

Later I tried the same with a rat's tail brought home after a school dissection and pretty much exactly the same thing happened.

I just thought I'd share with you something from a book about the history of France I'm reading that caused me considerable amusement.

What's being discussed here is a cabinet d'aisances or a toilet to you and me. Apparently they were introduced into French hotels in the 18'th century to please English tourists, but the locals weren't too keen.
The servant maid told me her mistress had caused it to be made on purpose for the English travellers; but now she was very sorry for what she had done, as all the French who frequented her house, instead of using the seat, left their offerings on the floor, which she was obliged to have cleaned three or four times a day.

We need to talk about Keir Starmer.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... competence
it’s hard to surrender fully to Keir Starmer’s apparent conviction that what the Great British PublicTM are crying out for is calmness and competence, even if that’s what we collectively tell the pollsters. I mean, we tell the doctors we drink 14 units a week.
Quite.

When Marina Hyde is putting her particularly sharp pointy toed boot in you know you have a problem.

I mean I'm on record on this forum saying Starmer was painfully dull and only seemed to have two facial expressions. Blank and pained like he really needed a poo.

But I also thought and do still think he was an vast improvement on the vain, self important fool who came before him.

And let's face it he's closed a polling gap that was the size of Olympus Mons.

While being attacked relentlessly by members of his own party.

So maybe it's not quite time yet for him to be feeling Marina's boot up the crack of his arse.

Let's see how the flag waving and pariotism shit goes first because I have high hopes for that.

He's certainly an improvement on his forerunner who had some good ideas but no self awareness at all but, for me, Keir Starmer's probationary period has very nearly run its course. I make some allowances for the peculiar times we're in.
