Good morning.

Short on detail but not on ambition: four problems with the new NHS white paper
The White Paper takes a traditional view within central government that organisational restructuring can solve problems. This flies in the face of evidence that past attempts to do so have underestimated the associated costs and disruption.
Much like everything else they do.

More seriously
Not only will the local government voice be relatively weak, but the powers given to the Secretary of State could see councils losing control of their social care and public health services to the priorities of the ICSs.
Given that social care is more than half the functions of most LAs after years of underfunding, the implications are serious.

Good afternoon.

Some snow overnight but that has all but gone now.

UK government not sure where billions of pounds' worth of PPE is

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/ ... -of-ppe-is" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The government is not sure where billions of pounds worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) is located, the head of the National Audit Office has disclosed.

Gareth Davies, the comptroller and auditor general, said outside consultants had been brought into Whitehall to find all equipment, which is stored at different sites around the country, or is in transit from abroad.

The task had been undertaken so that the Department of Health and Social Care knew when stocks would become too old to use and could complete its own accounts, he said.
:roll:

How long would a stock system - assuming they didn't have one at the time which could be extended to include these - take to set up?

Not long. You could do it on bloody Excel if necessary!

Tell you what, there are some cracking comments in this...

And yes, he lives in the North East but that doesn't stop people asking him if he could run in the London Mayoral Election...and democracy is fine...until they don't like it and want Khan removed somehow.

Matt Hancock has formally unveiled plans for a significant reorganisation of the health service that he said would bring better integration and accountability and less bureaucracy, but which will also concentrate power over the NHS with ministers.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/li ... db2aba6b40" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"Secretary of State's duty to promote comprehensive health service..."

Ministers have only a duty to promote, not provide
Anyone know if this has changed or will change?

Don't know if I have any fellow Mandalorian fans here but this has pissed me off because her character was cool.

'The Mandalorian' Star Gina Carano Fired Amid Social Media Controversy

On Wednesday, Carano was trending on social media after The Mandalorian shared a post inferring that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.

Last November, she issued contentious tweets, one in which she mocked mask-wearing amid the novel coronavirus pandemic and another in which she falsely suggested voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

Calling back to yesterday, some people have suggested re-casting the part with Lucy Lawless :clap:

So farewell then Chick Corea.

Some of his stuff in the mid-70s was a bit naff but his work with Miles, Stan Getz, and the two early Return To Forever are superb.

And there we had a perfect example of the massive problem Labour has in Scotland, for much of Question Time Ian Murray, Labour's only Scottish MP and their Shadow Scottish secretary, sounded little different to an arch Tory lunatic like Michael Forsyth.

It is a real bummer for ScotLab that this total roaster is their only representative at Westminster.

(you do know the story of how he almost joined Change UK, right?)
