So as both Labour and the Lib Dems have said they'll scrap 'em, this PCC is pretty much on a 6 month contract.

Well - a lot of Labour bods must have done exactly as Paul says and gone out to vote for something they probably didn't want in the first place to make sure UKIP doesn't surge.

I am very very very grateful to them.

Britain’s most controversial landlords, Fergus and Judith Wilson, whose property empire extends to nearly 1,000 homes in Kent, have begun evicting families with more than two children, banned tenants on zero-hours contracts and thrown out extended families where the grandmother comes to stay.

Last January, the Wilsons sparked a national outcry after it was revealed they were evicting anyone on housing benefit. They sent the eviction notices to 200 tenants, saying they preferred eastern European migrants who defaulted much less frequently than single mums on welfare. They said at the time that the move was purely an economic decision and was entirely legal as landlords do not have to give a reason before obtaining a possession order on a home.

But, in a bizarre twist, the Wilsons have begun evicting many of their eastern European tenants – because they are having too many children. “I have taken the decision to evict all families with more than two children and also three-generation households,” said Fergus Wilson in a statement sent to the Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/o ... g-families

This man sounds like he's got a King Herod complex .... what a totally twisted mindset.

Yes - whoever it was said this earlier on upthread - please let interest rates rocket and knock this berk off his perch.

Thanks for the info about Labour plans 're buses PaulfromYorkshire. This is a particularly important issue for those of us reliant on public transport/have mobility considerations to take account of.Each separate mode of transport may be accessible but lack of integration can be a nightmare to negotiate. We end up using taxis for annoyingly small journeys but not feasibly done otherwise(if that makes sense).Though each journey is not that expensive,it soon mounts up as does the blood pressure.

I think Dodgy Dave may have crossed some sort of line wrt his support of Woolf...the noise in the MSM is getting louder.

I've not heard\seen anything on the news (BBC) about the PCC election (although I've been fielding 'phone calls so I could have missed it - but there's nothing on the breaking news tickertape thingy at the bottom of the TV screen). Endless coverage of the Labour-in-Scotland story, though.

And as an irrelevant aside - students at my daughter's university have been told not to use the phrase "brain-storming" as it's offensive to epileptics (or people with epilepsy as I prefer to call them - labelling people as ,,,,,ics anything is offensive, in my view, as it reduces them to being defined by their medical condition). The students have been told that "thought-showering" is the phrase du jour.

Less than 30 votes (0.02% of 148,012), prevented a 2nd preference run-off. With South Yorkshire's 1.1m electors, that's astonishingly close.

The survivors' representative was pretty categorical that the groups he was speaking on behalf of (quite a few of them) had now decided they would not participate in an enquiry with Woolf at its head - and that they wanted nothing less than a statutory inquiry with full powers.

Of course - Cameron's timing is as spot on as usual - he has issued his statement of full confidence in Woolf just as pretty much everyone else, and certainly those who matter most, decide otherwise.

According to the BBC David Cameron is unwavering (or glossy and unbending, or something) in his support for Fiona Woolf. The legal representative of the survivors was interviewed and was very good.
