Morning all.
I think there's a political aspect as well, we like to chat about Labour but who wants to talk about Starmer? Anyone not disappointed? Is it just me or is it getting increasingly quiet here? I know I'm not a regular poster, especially during the day, but it certainly seems less active.
I'm guessing (and hoping) that everyone's feeling pretty much like me. Dulled by both lockdown and February. Yeah it's got a bit sunnier and warmer but it's still the fag end of a shitty winter that I want to be over.
Unlike PPE and Test & Trace, we haven't heard much detail about the spend on mass testing, £100bn?, but this suggests to me that spaffer's doing what spaffer does and we'll get mass testing whether or not it's actually useful.Amid positive signs of falling death rates and rising immunity levels, ministers are reportedly preparing for a mass testing “blitz” with the aim of getting the country to “a new normal”.
According to the Times’ splash, NHS test and trace is readying for a nationwide “surge” testing programme, which would involve more than 400,000 rapid lateral flow tests being sent by post to homes and workplaces every day.

There was a lot talk about with Cameron and the Coalition government, they were very busy with wide-sweeping reforms across the board. All Johnson's government has done so far is use the pandemic as cover for shovelling as much money to their cronies as conceivably possible, whilst otherwise doing all the unremarkable things as expected in such a situation plus deliver the hard Brexit as outlined by Theresa May in the laziest, most destructive and non-sophisticated way possible.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Its also that with the pandemic ongoing, "normal" politics is still largely suspended (and yes I *do* think that makes it harder for Starmer and Labour tbf)
Sure, but hiring Claire Ainsley won't make it easier.AnatolyKasparov wrote:I *do* think that makes it harder for Starmer and Labour tbf)

I wasn't going to comment on Dominic Raab's broom but I think I should mention that this is a pic of something wooden, inflexible and of limited capabilities.
Well, the new Gen Sec is a definite wrong 'un I would say.gilsey wrote:Not much help if it's the wrong one.
Name some names, I'm genuinely interested.

-WikipediaThe Jewish Chronicle described Evans as a "staunch opponent of hard left politics" and a "fierce critic of anti-Zionism".
This is why they criticised these activists for trying to ‘rewrite’ history, and argued that pulling down statues is not only destroying British heritage but also preventing people from learning about the past. The fact that historians rewrite history for a living, the fact that statues are not effective means of educating the public (and are designed to resist attempts at contextualisation) is irrelevant, because these arguments are not being made in good faith. Instead, they are intended to delegitimize the work of experts in the field and to monster the actions of activists who are, in fact, engaging with history as they should: in a nuanced and complex manner.
