Good morning.

So a government who have been in control of its institutions for the past 10 years gets a carefully selected panel chosen by a No 10 official to report that those institutions aren't racist. Well, I'm deeply shocked by that news...

Elsewhere some see the news management as being a bit iffy...

The précis was also released under a really rare type of embargo called “no approach” - usually only used for things like Queen’s honours etc. Means you can’t gather any reaction before embargo time (midnight in this case). They wanted to avoid *any* response to day 1 coverage.

What a shame ? On the day that
@vickyford
was scaling Everest, as the first Briton to do so, she wasn’t around to receive the plaudits for ridding the country of institutional racism.

And this, from the report into the policing of the vigil on Clapham Common, is very odd.

Why was the report even addressing the calls for Cressida Dick to go?

Bill Crothers controlled £40bn of annual UK state procurement
- he also set up Crown Commercial Service
- in 2016 he left to join Greensill
- in 2018 it won Gov contract
- but @ft can reveal he never obtained permission from lobbying watchdog Acoba

My initial impression is that they may have overdone it a little.

And remember this is public money that the government is spending on self-serving “independent” reports that diminish in real value with each new implausible conclusion.

Wow, the Race Commission actually decided which journalists should get early sight of their report?

Can't think anyone is surprised at this...

Staff at outsourced Covid testing centres surprised to find they don't even work for G4S, but for a variety of brand new firms with directors in the Philippines that resemble "cut out" companies set up to avoid paying National Insurance. Full story in the new Eye, out today.

Yeah, you aren't really meant to make it this obvious.

Out of all my family, friends and acquaintances only one of them has been stopped by the police on a number of occasions while going about his business doing no harm to anybody. He's also the only one who's black. According to the Conservatives this is a total coincidence and probably his own fault for not 'helping himself through his own agency'.

Truly repellent.

And that someone you admired for their intelligence could be so willfully ignorant.

It's a double helping of disappointment.

I'll try imagining she's just politically naive and see how far that gets me next time I watch her.

For me nothing will ever beat seeing Clive Lloyd appear at a pro-Thatcher rally during the 1987 GE campaign - absolutely never saw that one coming.

Genuinely adored the guy as a kid.
