Quick thanks to Refitman and SGO and AK (in particular) but everyone else too for keeping this place going.
And of course to PF for adding that trademark hint of ducking/diving.

Good morning.

Tories: Those woke people are trying to destroy our heritage and we have to stop them!

Also Tories: 400 year old bell foundry? Nah, don't need one of those...

The sad, shameful demise of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry

T
wo issues stand out. The first is that Robert Jenrick helpfully intervened when Tower Hamlets gave permission. This government presents itself as patriotic – all this stuff about schools being required to raise the flag every morning, every minister being photographed with a Union flag in their living room, the absurdity of the monstrously tacky press room in Downing Street, covered in flags, which was abandoned as fast as it had been created by Russian contractors. But, of course, it is play-acting, a superficial veneer for their rather brutal capitalism. They are happy to use British history for their own purposes, but when a decision comes about protection and preservation of a living monument of the past, instead they support an American vulture capitalist. A hotel for passing tourists is more important than a bit of living history. You can feel that mood in the City, where so little is left of the historic fabric. Instead it is more like Hong Kong.

Apparently Wes Streeting has announced he has kidney cancer - early diagnosis so all being well he'll make a full recovery.

So they've gone for one who is even more of a crank than normal.

Perhaps i have come to this particularly party a little late but I would like to draw your attention to "Discovering Sarfolk" by Richard Littler.

More to follow.

From Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarfolk
In July 2018, a parody Scarfolk poster was mistakenly featured in the UK government's in-house magazine, Civil Service Quarterly, as part of a serious article about the history of government communications. The inclusion of poster, which bore the slogan "If you suspect your child has RABIES don't hesitate to SHOOT", attracted some media attention.[9][10]
