Ah great, as if we didn't have enough on our plate with climate change already!

Good morfternoon.

Boris Johnson has given an unfocused, stumbling speech in Coventry in which he attempts to distance himself from his racist output and . . . . football. Unusually, the Press is giving him a hard time.

And, as is usual, attempted to pretend almost a decade of Tory rule from 2010 to 2019 was nothing to do with him.

The Department for Work and Pensions has agreed to change its controversial policy of cold-calling vulnerable and disabled people and trying to persuade them to accept lower benefit claims than they are legally entitled to.
I'd like to have a serious word with whoever drew up this policy.

Short and to the point, more of this sort of thing please.

The transcript of today's "levelling up" speech is now doing the rounds on social media.

My goodness, "blather" doesn't begin to do it justice.

"Summer’s here and salad days go on for ever – more’s the pity

I want to be the man who halves pert cherry tomatoes but I’d rather dream of pies" (Guardian)

I love summer and the heat - I'm still waiting for summer's arrival - but, in this case, I'm with Jay Rayner.

Gist of it seems to be "Elect a local mayor* and then it's up to them to do the levelling up"

* "and in so doing we'll make the local authority landscape even more of a mess than it is now"

And in other news...GB News seems to be shedding viewers at an alarming rate and even upsetting its target audience of the frothing right.

https://zelo-street.blogspot.com/2021/0 ... WKGrCcVoCQ
Battersea bedroom dweller Paul Watson added “GB News' credibility didn't last long. What does this melt think he's doing?” Dick Delingpole, brother of the self-styled saviour of western civilisation, wanted to know “Who’s surprised that GB News turns out to be just another Sky/BBC?” And one Brexiteer brains trust stopped his grey matter hurting long enough to moan “No more GBNEWS for me. This is stoking racism”.
Ah well...

Actually it came across to me more as "elect a local mayor and we will 'help' them as long as they agree to do what the central government wants".

A singularly unpleasant individual is Mr Embery...even if you thought it - and the thought never occurred to me - why would you even say it?

Shocked to see that. She always seemed to be on the right side of things which is unusual nowadays. I thought the Guardian had dispensed with her services - too much of a non- centry (made up word) for them, perhaps.

The replies to this are hilarious - British Alba is one of those accounts that pops up with the right wing opinion you'd expect.

The high street strategy includes plans to encourage walking and cycling; funding to tackle graffiti, and a chewing gum removal taskforce; a national high streets day; funding to save local pubs; the extension of pavement licences for hospitality; and plans to encourage street parties, particularly for the Queen’s platinum jubilee next year.
Transformative.
