And some people genuinely think Arteta is a better manager than OGS.
Let that sink in.

Good evening. Decent result for the Os today - far better than Tuesday's load of tripe.
There's a new Twitter account called History Reclaimed.
It follows 1 account so far - that of Boris Johnson. Make of that what you will. Oh, and it has Nigel Biggar, Andrew Roberts and more of the usual suspects. Including 2 Spiked luminaries, and I'm guessing that's it's one of their offshoots.

If you have 40mins to spare, this is very good (and watch it with the subtitles on)
Re: Bank Holiday Weekend 28th, 29th & 30th August 2021
Be interesting to see how this bit of history will be written and re-written and re-written
Re: Bank Holiday Weekend 28th, 29th & 30th August 2021
Utter shambles of a govt . There was another case, accepted in December. HO then rejected by mail in July, Army general insisted he came, OK. Then FO mail rejecting him again a few days ago.
A case rejected by FO for security reasons, reason probably because of distant family members in the Taliban, but that was one additional reason WHY he was fleeing .
And so on .
The hostile environment, plus security scares, I wonder if the HO delays over the past months were mainly caused by Fear of Farage and the racist Tory vote ?

Addition, the Home Office doing what it likes best, making life Hell --

Its more than that, its the underlying HO mindset which has been there for a long time now.frog222 wrote: ↑Sun 29 Aug, 2021 8:02 am

Dreadful times, but we can still raise a smile, even a laugh, at the pitiful antics of some of our fellow human animals , while knowing they're trying to ruin society and our lives ...
Back to tidying my yard, sawing branches for stovewood. I will listen to R4 at One, to see how they 'present' all this ... my 'Media Studies' programme is sociological, IE detecting the distortions omissions and lies!

Happy Holiday all
Just catching up with the weekend’s posts. Thanks
It’s worth noting that the Mail on Sunday backed Remain. Doesn’t make that article any less bizarre though!

We aren't having another lockdown, people need to get used to that idea tbh.

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend 28th, 29th & 30th August 2021
If you're an expert, and you think the govt are getting it disastrously wrong, I don't think you should be expected to 'get used to it'.
I haven't seen anyone anticipating another lockdown though, all the experts I've read are just proposing the usual mitigations. It doesn't seem to be too hard for other European countries.
I think most of the rest of us are with Dr Nicholl above.

Plenty of people online who have been converted to the fantasy of "Zero Covid" and indefinite lockdowns until this is achieved.
You don't have to be a defender of this government - or indeed any other - to accept we are going to have to learn to live with the virus to a degree.

From the former Treasury Solicitor...
Quite. But that's the game right now - always someone else's fault.

"Learning to live with" something is not the same as removing regulations which help mitigate against it. Indeed rather the opposite.

Having never been a great believer in the "sapiens" tag, I can't pretend - watching our collective behaviour in the midst of global, fatal epidemic- to have changed much.

Again, my posts are not intended to support whatever the government is (or is not) doing.tinyclanger2 wrote: ↑Mon 30 Aug, 2021 8:54 pm "Learning to live with" something is not the same as removing regulations which help mitigate against it. Indeed rather the opposite.
But that too many on the left have bought wholesale into the Zero Covid fantasy is also, I think, undeniable.
