Paris is increasingly convinced the British prime minister is not interested in solving the bilateral problems weighing down the relationship, and instead wants to use France as a running sore to keep Brexit alive in British politics.

Why? I thought that we weren't meant to be allowing terrorism to interfere with our democracy etc, etc. Not contesting an election would appear to be doing exactly the opposite.
However, given that only the Conservatives are in with any chance of winning this one, I suppose there's nothing to lose by looking gracious.

I think back to when I was a kid and unknown adults would tell us off if we were smoking/misbehaving on the bus (and we'd stop). No-one would do that nowadays (the adults would be scared to and the kids would accuse them of some kind of heinous discrimination). It is now clear that SARS-CoV-2 transmits mostly between people at close range through inhalation. This does not mean that transmission through contact with surfaces or that the longer range airborne route does not occur, but these routes of transmission are less important during brief everyday interactions over the usual 1 m conversational distance. In close range situations, people are much more likely to be exposed to the virus by inhaling it than by having it fly through the air in large droplets to land on their eyes, nostrils, or lips.The transmission of SARS-CoV-2 after touching surfaces is now considered to be relatively minimal.

I think it depends where you are in the UK. Small villages with aging populations still seem to be a bit more interested in masks (though I have not engaged in a detailed assessment of this so I may be talking b******s.)

All my adult life I've believed that between 30 & 40% of the Uk population are selfish arseholes, they seem to have now coalesced into a pool of tory voters. What's the likelihood of those people turning against Brexit? However bad it gets for them, as long as they can still point to some having it even worse they don't seem to mind.
I've also always believed that we should have PR. What's the likelihood of Labour as a party supporting it?
One more very unlikely event would be 'sensible' tories coming out of the woodwork and getting rid of the current bunch of wreckers.
Struggling to think of any other scenarios for a change for the better. My glass is half empty.

Well I learned a couple of lessons this week. Never go out and drink ten pints when you have a sinus infection and the drugs do work (or do they?).
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride in this case. After days of feeling like a sadistic alien parasite was crawling around in my forehead occasionaly taking a holiday in my eyes or teeth causing extra pain for the sheer hell of it I'd had enough. I'd done the stupid bloke thing and tried ignoring it and hoping it would go away on its own without me having to do anything as if that was some kind of act of stoic heroism and it didn't work. If anything it got worse. So I did a bit of reading, went and bought some pills, took one, and within a couple of hours it was gone.
The funny thing is though, in the U.S the FDA (food and drugs administration) is trying to ban Phenylephrine Hydrochloride from being sold because in their tests it's been shown to be no better than a placebo at relieving sinus pain.
Frankly I couldn't care less if my stupid brain has been tricked. It wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last.

I would say none whatsoever. The Labour party, at least the left of it, is full of idealists who think if they win one election everything they do is going to be so wonderful nobody is ever going to be able to undo it. Utopian dreamers with absolutely no wish to compromise because they think they only need to get lucky once.
I suspect most of us have spent much of our lives around such people, they're lovely, earnest, kind, and utterly deluded.
If anything steers Labour towards genuinely supporting electoral reform it won't be for our benefit, it'll be because it's the only way they think they can gain power.
