In the Commons Rishi Sunak, the chancellor, is taking questions. Pat McFadden, the shadow Treasury minister, asked why he would not support Labour’s proposal for a windfall tax on energy companies. In reply Sunak said it was because the government wanted to get more investment into the North Sea, and “exploiting domestic resources”.

From a military & strategic perspective, RU has already lost.

As I said a week ago, RU offensive operations will soon culminate due to losses & lack of supplies. They will then go on the defense, with continued artillery destruction of towns. 7/

Chelsea call to ban all fans from Cup tie angers government and Middlesbrough

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... abramovich
Chelsea are also lobbying the government to lift the £20,000 cap on travel to away games. They argue it would normally cost three times as much to travel to Middlesbrough and it remains to be seen how Thomas Tuchel and his players will get to the game.
What? How the hell does it cost £60,000 to get a coach from London to Middlesbrough and back?

Good morfternoon.
Blair says it is a mistake for Nato to be as specific as it has been about not getting involved in the war. He explains:

I understand and accept that there is not political support for any direct military engagement by Nato of Russia. But we should be clear-eyed about what Putin is doing. He is using our correct desire not to provoke escalation alongside his willingness to escalate as a bargaining chip against us. When he is threatening Nato, even stoking fears of nuclear conflict, in pursuit of his attempt to topple by force a peaceful nation’s democratically elected president and wage war on its people, there is something incongruous about our repeated reassurance to him that we will not react with force. (Politics Live, Guardian)
I think he makes a very reasonable point here.

As for the rest of what he had to say (apart, possibly, for the bit about Crimea because we've already let that one slide) I don't agree.

It doesn't, they're having to go by coach to keep within the allowance.
Plan was to fly, but I think you'd have to charter a luxury jet for it to cost that much, maybe that's what they usually do.

I think he's entirely, dangerously wrong. Again. NATO has to remain a defensive organisation. We'd all love to see the Russian artillery and tanks in Ukraine blown to shit by someone riding over the hills to the rescue but the risk is insanely high. The simple fact is Putin could wipe out most of human civilisation and as awful as what's happening in Ukraine is are we willing to risk that? I'd rather not.

Blair should really shut the fuck up, he seems to exist in some alternative reality where he's not responsible for fatally weakening all the international organisations, laws and conventions set up after WWII to stop this shit happening again. He ignored the U.N and international law in invading Iraq at the behest of a right wing president who decided the Geneva convention didn't apply and it was fine to torture your enemies.

It beggars belief that anyone regards him as having anything worthwhile to contribute.

(I'm not saying you do PF, in fact I'm pretty certain you'd like to kick his sorry arse).

I was in the car with my brother when we got stuck a few cars behind the Liverpool coach on the M62 on the way to Leeds last year at roadworks near Huddersfileld, he owed me £20 so I didn't give him any petrol money.

Now it appears I owe him £59,980.

The fact that Ukraine is not a NATO member renders the defensive bit void in this case, I agree, and I'm not saying that I support military action by NATO against Russia (although the sub-text of Tony Blair's essay indicates that he well might). But I do think that NATO is behaving in an overly wishy washy (my brain can't come up with the correct words - I have a cold, so I'll blame that) fashion.
