In the 80s I had the sense that the world and UK were a bit shit but I had a fundamental disposition towards optimism.
Things got a bit better for a bit (or I had the sense that they did; maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention) but now I have the same sense as in the 80s but without the optimism.
It's much less fun.

Things did get better, for a while. But we got a bit too complacent about that - the Whig view of history has a fair amount to answer for here.

Good morning. It's before lunch so that's my guide to terminology...

I have the impression that people (especially old people) are just collatoral to the infinitely small number of individuals on the planet who hold the vast majority of the money and power.

Meanwhile the PMs hirelings are putting about the lie that Durham Police have agreed to "re-examine" the Keir Starmer beer thing.
They have done absolutely no such thing, as anybody can see *if they actually look at the actual letter*.

Everybody's favourite education 'expert'
Said this in all seriousness in 2022 before a parliamentary committee?

My daughter prefers physics to chemistry because there's more maths in it. I don't think it's the maths putting girls off. I think it's other things being more interesting and our peculiar and outdated obsession with specialising in just three subjects from age 16.

Well, you know my thoughts on Ms Birbalsingh which are largely unprintable.
This:
“Research generally, people, you know, they say that that’s just a natural thing. I mean, I don’t know…you know, I’m not an expert at that sort of thing..but um…that’s what they say”
Apparently the %ages in her school are lower than the national average which might indicate that it's an in-school problem rather than what she thinks it is.
She also indicated that she didn't know how government targets for literacy and numeracy were to be achieved - that's because she has not a single clue about what goes on in primary schools! She had no idea about what SATs and testing in primaries a few months ago.
Out of her depth.

Johnson giving away military secrets. Frontbencher publically (never mind at all) watching porn at work.
Am not entirely conviced that the f***wits we've collectively elected into power (in various countries) are the right people to be leading the world in these increasingly precarious times.

Johnson also apparently told a direct lie at PMQs about nuclear power stations.
