Excellent piece from the IPPR
Sunak says he can’t help the cost of living crisis. What about these five simple steps?

Sixthly — I’m NOT for a windfall tax on billionaires, because they should be taxed regularly !

European fruit with traces of most toxic pesticides ‘up 53% in nine years’
Analysis of nearly 100,000 samples found residues in a third of apples and half of blackberries
https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... nine-years
Having bought some 'industrial' apples recently I wondered about the best way of washing them, also even if peeled were they still poisoned ?
No specific answer to the last bit ... but if some poisons can get through the skins stands to reason they can spread in the juicy part .

No surprise that there is an explosion of organic shops around here .

Good afternoon...and yes, it's not getting any better is it?
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

But none of them were actual parties, apparently.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Johnson has an evil twin who keeps getting him in trouble?
Re: Tuesday 24th May 2022
Quite a long LauraK one on the gory details —
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-61566410” At the party on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral on 16 April 2021, they portray a “lively event… a general party with people dancing around”.
The gathering becoming so loud that security guards in the building told them to leave the building and go into the No 10 grounds.
“So everyone grabbed all the drinks, the food, everything, and went into the garden,” one source says.
“We all sat around the tables drinking. People stayed the night there.”
——————-
” Another insider describes how a custodian, a Downing Street security guard, was mocked when they tried to stop a party in full flow.
“I remember when a custodian tried to stop it all and he was just shaking his head in this party, being like, ‘This shouldn’t be happening’.”
“People made fun of him because he was so worked up that this party was happening and it shouldn’t be happening.”
How did it happen then, when the rest of the country was living under strict lockdown?
All three paint a picture of a Downing Street as a parallel universe. “We saw it as our own bubble” where the rules didn’t really apply, says one.
“Everything just continued as normal. Social distancing didn’t happen. We didn’t wear face masks. It wasn’t like the outside world.” ”

Re: Tuesday 24th May 2022
Mark Urban talking on Newsnight to Michelle O'Neill.
"Yes but what about cross community support?"
"Yes but what about the DUP?"
"Yes but what about the damage the Protocol is creating?"
It was absolutely shocking, he dismissed everything she said with a patronising smirk and I'm not sure how she kept her composure so admirably.
It's beyond a doubt now that since Emily Maitlis left Newsnight has taken a turn to the right, I mean last night they were literally making excuses for Johnson and when Peter Bone laughably claimed 'I think we all agree that was a work event' Urban didn't question it at all.

Holy shit, and I thought our benefits system was bad.
Basically it makes you a debt slave to the state who then control every financial aspect of your life and a lot more besides. Quite terrifying.
tl;dr swiss social security is far from the great humanitarian project i often hear it described as; much more, it is a scheme that entraps the poorest of the poor in life-long debt and removes a great amount of personal freedoms people take for granted in western democracies.
