Good morning.

How long will it be before a confidence vote I wonder?

If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Mr Sonny -- that holiday confirmed. I don't know when normal QT service is to be restored ...

Jesse Norman was right on Rwanda Article16 Channel4 that ban on ‘noisy demonstrations’ and so on, but he really got taken in that the thug was really a liberal and really did a great job as mayor of London .

Tory MPs now critical of Johnson have to throw in something to justify having supported him for so long.

Theresa May won her confidence vote but it didn't do her much good.

Johnson's letter to "Colleagues". I noted particularly: "I know that over recent months I have come under a great deal of fire.........Some of that criticism has PERHAPS [my caps] been fair...."
The oft-quoted, "I've done nothing wrong" comes to mind.

It's writing a letter of support that's hard.

Though its a good bet not all those MPs ended up backing May in a secret ballot.

Whilst you do get just an inkling with Johnson that it could even be the other way round.

I will believe him losing this vote when I see it.

Afternoon. Slow news day I see.

I was indeed on holiday up in the Cairngorms. Here's a view from the highest point on the highest road in the UK (the A93 over the the Cairnwell Pass).

Image

A large number of insane people were cycling up it, presumably taking part in some kind of event. None of them looked like they were enjoying themselves.

As you can see I also visited the Seychelles.

Only kidding, that's a view from a place called Findhorn looking North into the Moray Firth.

Anyway back to the matter at hand.

A Johnson win with a decent vote against him (say about 150), he carries on dragging his wretched carcass and sorry excuse for a party through the gutter, the public become increasingly incensed that he won't leave, until somewhere down the road he's forced out kicking and screaming after a protracted and highly amusing Tory civil war.

What larks!

Even if he loses today. Johnson still has a significant bloc of MPs who are very loyal to him personally. In a way May didn't, and (say) Starmer doesn't.

Hard not to see some turbulence ahead for the Tories whatever happens.

Leaving aside Johnson for a moment, up where we were in Scotland you'd never have known there was a jubilee going on. There was absolutely no sign of it whatsoever, even in Aviemore. The only time we saw any bunting and flags on display was in a place called Ballater which is next to Balmoral, other than that there was zilch, it was a total non-event.

BBC Scotland has its own QT called Debate Night which I watched (of course) and besides a couple of ardent Unionists the audience opinion about the jubilee seemed to go from 'who gives a shit?' to outright hostility.

I felt right at home.

Blimey, If Andrew '6 chip twat' Bowie is voting against Johnson this could get interesting. There's definitely a few surprise names popping up in Johnson's negative column that I bet his handlers weren't expecting.

Arguably about as bad a result from a Tory POV as you could get.

Johnson clearly mortally wounded, but with just enough strength left to stagger on.

If he is still there then, next May's elections will surely now be an absolute bloodbath for the blues and that should finally finish him.

When you think that about 160 MPs are on the government payroll that's an absolutely shocking result for Johnson. It means only around 50/60 Tory MPs voted for him of their own free will.

He's done worse than Thatcher, Major and May.

There is absolutely no way he can recover from this but he won't go and we're in for months of internecine Tory in-fighting.

Well sourced rumours that only one Scots Tory MP (the actual SoS) voted for him.

I'm beginning to get worried about the enormous amount of glee I'm experiencing at Johnson's endless, drawn out torture. It's exposing a cruel streak I was previously unaware I possessed.

The desperate line being trotted out by Johnson and his sycophants is he did better tonight than he did in the leadership contest in 2019 against Hunt and Gove.

Which is an odd comparison to make as he was then up against two other candidates whereas today he was up against nobody but himself and still only managed a narrow victory.

And talking of desperate I see the Mail are going for the threat of a 'coalition of chaos' again. Given current circumstances I suspect that's not going to work as well as they might hope.
