I know that QT audiences are often slanted to the right "cos of the last election result" but last night's was by several accounts particularly bad.
Sky's review would have been even more "interesting" to read than usual - terrific bad luck old bean, happened to me once back in the days when I did my weekly local byelection reviews (I think I did rewrite it eventually, but what a pain in the proverbials)

Good thread
Re: Friday 17th June 2022
If the QT audience is supposed to reflect the electorate at the last election a third of the audience should be comprised of non-voters, but that would probably defeat the object of finding an excuse for a Tory biased audience.

Tbf those things might not be mutually exclusive, it can still be a "dead cat" whilst causing distress and trauma to those involved.
And of course that doesn't make it any less despicable.

Here’s the thing on “Rwanda plane was never meant to take off, it’s all a dead cat” : No.
1. The people who were supposed to be on that flight have been traumatised. This govt deports people whenever it can & would have deported them. Each one of them is what matters most.
2. That is not to say that the focus on performing insensate cruelty towards refugees isn’t a deliberate attempt to shore up the govt’s political position & move the conversation away from Johnson resigning - it is.
Just that they truly would sacrifice refugees to that end.
3. On the idea they wanted to lose in court to build their narrative against human rights, again, no.
They wanted to win in court and still present the same narrative about how courts/lawyers TRIED to get in the way.
This govt was already & always out for our Human Rights Act.
4. Acting like this is all some intricate evil master plan gives them too much credit & disrespects the people, refugees, who are genuinely impacted by their cruel policies.
It isn’t a political game to get a deportation order, it could be the end of your life.

"I'm grateful for your coming to my rescue" - but who said it, Zelensky or Johnson?

Whoops, it's accelerating --
" Aujourd'hui Le taux d'incidence est en forte augmentation dans toutes les classes d'âge et a déjà dépassé la barre des 500 cas pour 100 000 habitants dans 6 départements. Comme le confirme Santé Publique...
Rush dental appointment just now, he has a Hepa filter in the waiting room, nighttime has ozone filters going, and windows wide open .
Out to saw up some firewood for a future winter, there's optimism for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It reminded me why moving away from Newcastle was one of the best decisions I ever made. I wrote a long opening paragraph last night busting the myth that Geordies are a uniquely friendly, welcoming lot. Some of them are great of course, one of my best friends is a Geordie, but the plethora of miserable, ignorant, intolerant, insular, chippy, mouthy arseholes on display last night came as no surprise if you've ever lived there.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Fri 17 Jun, 2022 10:23 am I know that QT audiences are often slanted to the right "cos of the last election result" but last night's was by several accounts particularly bad.
There are people like that everywhere right enough, but 'The Toon' produces them like they're going out of fashion. Which I wish they were.

As you may know, I was in the NE for my student days and a bit afterwards. I think you are being slightly harsh, but only slightly. What I will say was that their right wingers (well over-represented on last night's show) were notably obnoxious in my day, and it would seem not much has changed there.

An obvious solution to the absence of cars running over drunks would be to have pedestrianised cities patroled by wolverines trained to attack anyone exhibiting egregious signs of inebriation.

Oborne again !
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... i-patel-us" Julian Assange’s supposed crime was to expose atrocities committed by the US and its allies, primarily in Afghanistan and Iraq, during the war on terror. He shone a light on the systematic abuse dealt out to prisoners in Guantánamo Bay. He revealed the fact that more than 150 entirely innocent inmates were held for years without even being charged.
He published a video of helicopter gunmen laughing as they casually massacred unarmed Iraqi civilians in an attack that killed around 15 people, including a Reuters photographer and his assistant.
The US declined to discipline the perpetrators of that atrocity. But they are pursuing Assange to the ends of the earth for revealing it took place. "

Yes, it's clear that anyone drinking strong, cheap alchohol should be much fairer game for "death by traffic" (without the alternative option of cake).
