Morning RFM --looking forward to a summer of discontent all around .

Louise Haig the Lab shadow made the point that Network Rail is state-owned so govt can't pretend it's nothing to do with them ? Attacks on pensions, fire&rehire, cutting maintenance, all dreadfully familiar.

@Sky lastnight I thought McCluskey made sense in the youtube (segment from 36 minutes) as to how Corbyn lost the plot between the two general elections .

Good article on France
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/ ... challenges
showing how we have similar problems , but the French have already done more to cushion inflation costs for the poor, and are starting from a higher level because there are fewer desperately poor than in UK.
My basic state pension went up 1.1% in January and as announced a few days ago another 4% from first of July.

At least Hernandez conceded which is better than the northern demagogue !
From some of the "anti-Communist" slurs coming from diSantis and Co you'd think Petro had just come out of being a guerilla in the jungle when in fact the MI-9 movement he was in had renounced violence in .. 1990.

Times headline, apparently - "Kagame rages as asylum farce spoils his bid to rebrand Rwanda".

You do, indeed, love to see it.

Yeah, that latter statement is universally true I think.

I have genuinely never understood those who are mainly animated by disliking those who are in some way different from them.

Always remember "it takes all sorts to make a world".

Perhaps there are always some secret-haters of the 'other' in our particular societies , but while it's not socially acceptable to voice it or at least not get violent, in normal times, circumstances can unleash the hidden demon in large groups of people.

Anecdotal " Groups of young chatting having a nice time on café terrace in Sarajevo,

"" no problem here, look at how many mixed marriages we have ..."".

(Pre war)

OTOH very varied mixes of cultures and religions have managed to survive for centuries, as in Norman Sicily .

It looks as tho Macron , or his party?, wants to install the RN as more or less the Official Opposition because technically it could be said Marine has the biggest party and Mélenchon's bigger group is just an unofficial alliance .
(It's about who presides the Commission des Finances as official Opposition Party, which has parliamentary power in various ways )
