Ventilator beds up sharply too, it's back to the lungs .
Huge case numbers regularly adding scores of thousands with Long Covid .

Well most Labour MPs didn't support the 1926 General Strike either (and there are lots of other similar examples)

I'm not sure what events 96 years ago have to do with the Labour leadership refusing to support workers today.

Oh hello.

I had a PC failure a couple of weeks ago which meant all my links/passwords were inaccessible...and I've only just realised I had it on my laptop. That is my old laptop since I have a shiny new one to go with my shiny new desktop which arrives on Thursday.

So, what's occurring?
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

I think this overlooked the second part of my post.

If anything the party in parliament not giving four square backing to industrial action is more the norm than the exception.

At least there's that.
It was a fairly transparent attempt to appear "tough" before the byelections, especially with the Tories trying to make hay from them.

I found this interesting.
Interesting that they paint the Alison Bailey case in such a positive light. As far as I've seen, she's on her way to losing that - after she had won a case that said she could hold bigoted views.

As far as this goes:
Kirrin Medcalf, said: “I wouldn’t say that trans women were born male, they’re born as trans women.” In other words, in the view of this Stonewall staff member, a trans woman has never been male.
I wonder if Susanna would describe gay people as "being born straight"? Or is she implying that trans people are 'converted' at some point in their lives?

Also, I haven't seen any trans activist advocate for removal of gender from birth, just that a person's gender doesn't always match their sex. And no trans activist says that sex and gender are the same things.

RFM - I don't have the answers to this. I just found it an interesting read. I actually think it's OK for people of my (age, gender, background, education etc etc) to be not 100% clear on this stuff at this point. Don't read this as antagonistic - it's absolutely not - but I can't be told what to think. I have to think my way to that point.

I should add that "interesting" doesn't necessarily convey agreement; more that it triggers thought processes ("interest")>

More information on the Alison Bailey employment tribunal

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/s ... 74893.html

https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2022/05/12/a ... -chambers/

And some background on Bailey herself. She started an anti-trans organisation called 'LGB Alliance', which actively campaigns against trans rights. This is their managing director deleted her twitter:

I would just be EXCEEDINGLY sceptical of any reporting on trans issues in the Guardian. AFAIK, Owen Jones is the only pro-trans person working at the paper. In fact, there was a letter published by Guardian US over the negative coverage (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -rights-uk) and at least two members of staff have left over it (https://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwi ... ransphobia).

My mum was assessed today, she's completely lost her ability to balance, even while sitting, due to the Alzheimer's. Which means my dad can't care for her at home any longer and she'll have to go from hospital into a care home. Which is shit. We were all on holiday just a few weeks ago ffs. She's only 70. Thanks for that you heartless bastard universe.

Danny Kruger could do with an extra 'e' in his surname because the loss of bodily autonomy is a horror trope. 'Body horror' it's called, and here's an idea for a film. We get a parasitic wasp to lay it's eggs in Danny's head then refuse to allow him treatment because 'there's another body involved', probably several of them. As the grubs chew their way into what passes for Danny's brain we can all watch him have a 'legitimate democratic debate' about it (while he's still able) with the high council of the wasps who will be defending the rights of their young. Eventually when Danny collapses and dies after making a dramatic speech about how it's not right that wasps are allowed to munch on his brain against his wishes, tiny baby wasps eat their way out of his eyes and as the camera pans in we can see they're all wearing miniscule blue rosettes. Consuming Danny's degenerate grey matter has produced a new mutant species of conservative wasps and just before the film ends we hear them buzzing, 'All the jam is ours'.

Thanks Froggy. It's the injustice of it that really pisses me off. My mum has never been a drinker, she's never smoked, she's always been the kind of person to see the good in everyone (within reason), and yet she gets shat on from on high. I'm not a child, I understand life isn't fair, but how the fuck does a piece of shit like Johnson get to be Prime Minister while my mum gets early onset dementia? She's worth a thousand of him.

It's enough to make me want to tear the fabric of reality apart to see if at a basic level someone is taking the piss.
