I believe he was actually talking about nuclear energy and it working out cheaper in the long run, but I'm not sure how the costs of nuclear waste storage and plant decommissioning fit into the kettle analogy. Plus most kettles aren't a threat to life or cause an environmental disaster if hit by a tsunami as far as I know, so although taken out of context, the comment was still pretty vacuous tbf.
