Ah yes, the FT.
The almost unbelievably irresponsible and fantastical editorial they wrote for the 2015 GE has got a bit of circulation in the past few days.

Well it was titled (and I kid you not) "The Compelling Case For Continuity In Britain" - google that and it should be your first entry.

Oh dear ! I wonder how many of the FT staff disagreed with that at the time ?Labour has been more competitive than expected. Mr Miliband has been vilified by the Tories, but he has stuck to his guns on Europe, refusing to cave in to demands for a referendum. His willingness to stand his ground deserves credit.
Yet this cannot conceal the fundamental weakness in Labour’s plans. Mr Miliband is preoccupied with inequality. His prescription is an increase in taxes such as restoring the 50p level for high earners and imposing an ill-conceived mansion tax.

Sending to my Latina half-sister in Puerto RicoFBI probe centres on Venezeulan-born, Mayfair-based Tory donor.
He allegedly gave $300k to re-election of Trump-supporting governor of Puerto Rico, US territory, on one condition: sack head of its financial regulator, which was investigating suspicious activity at his bank

'Mr Miliband is preoccupied with inequality'
Quite rightly so, given the Burn-Murdoch graphs above.
Sigh.

The editorial endorsements of the Economist and Independent for that election were equally enraging.
What stands out with them all, maybe above all else, is their sheer complacency.

'Mr Miliband ........ would apply a brake on enterprise'
But not a screeching handbrake turn like Brexit.
Bigger sigh.

I once got into a lot of trouble with First Daughter .
Primary teacher asked them to write about what they'd seen on TV the night before .
She thanked me some 15 years later ...

Truss & Kwarteng - tax cuts in "selected" regions, to be paralleled by lower environmental regulations plus removing the cap for bankers bonuses.
Physically sickening.

That was then, this is now. When even the FT is exposing income inequality you know the times they are a-changin'.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Sat 17 Sep, 2022 1:58 pm Ah yes, the FT.

Edited because I originally said 'the tides they are a-changin' which brings to mind Bob Dylan as a crab surrounded by his beatnik shrimps and anemones. Obviously going electric at this time would not have been wise.

That is pretty good. Death metal does have a problem with white supermacist dickheads but they're mostly Eastern European rather than American. Unfortunately some of the death metal played over Ukrainian videos of the destruction of Russian military assets has been somewhat questionable to say the least when people translate the lyrics.
But then what genre of music doesn't have a minority of racist dicks? Disco maybe? I must confess I've never come across a racist funk band.

Which begs the question why don't electric eels electrocute themselves?Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Sun 18 Sep, 2022 10:16 pm Obviously going electric at this time would not have been wise.

So basically they bend and twist to avoid their bodies being the path of least resistance but if they get it wrong it kills them. No wonder evolution hasn't granted us all this superpower.

I was brought up watching Star Trek, Shatner snogging women of various colours was the way to the future. We had Tom Baker slagging off the fossil fuel industry as Dr Who (while shagging/marrying his assistants) and Joanna Lumley being Sapphire to David McCallum's Steel when he ran off to America to avoid paying his taxes.
This was all very confusing to me as a child and fails to paint a coherent narrative even now, which is why the Seventies were so great.

The FT was bought out by a Japanese company (Nikkei?) sometime after the 2015 GE so these days have zero stake in propping up economically illiterate "trickle down" Tory dogma.Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Sun 18 Sep, 2022 10:16 pmThat was then, this is now.
