Boris not a shoe-in for Uxbridge ?
Local paper quotes a Tory there as saying
“Boris is not at all a shoe-in and he’s got a real fight on his hands now. David Simmonds is very popular around here, and Uxbridge’s kind of guy.
We don’t go in for flashy and we’ve never been interested in celebrated MPs…”

Watching the debate on Andrew George's Bill and I was rather p'd to see the motion to hear in private. Thought it was more of a time-wasting measure than anything else. Wish the Speaker would have insisted that Andrew George 'be heard' as I was having difficulty in hearing him introduce the Bill.
Kerry McCarthy tweeted (about half an hour ago) "For those unfamiliar with Friday sittings, P Davies or Nuttall will soon start filibustering... and we will all lose the will to live.". She, like many of us, is frustrated at the pathetic holding tactics being used in Parliament and the media to protect IDS; and, yes, I do think Sparrow is as guilty of that as anybody, I'm more convinced than ever that editorial policy is to leave IDS alone.LadyCentauria wrote:Happy Birthday to Roger from me, too.HindleA wrote:Happy Birthday Roger, enjoy your trip.

Thanks. Yes, I was losing the will to live during Baldry's contribution. Giggled when someone referred to his, um, history lesson as "Baldrydash."TheGrimSqueaker wrote:Kerry McCarthy tweeted (about half an hour ago) "For those unfamiliar with Friday sittings, P Davies or Nuttall will soon start filibustering... and we will all lose the will to live.". Most unusual lately for a Friday Populus to be so favourable to Labour so enjoy but bear in mind that it might well be a sampling error.
Indeed. Which is odd, because Populus are on record as saying their weighting marks Labour down and UKIP up; so, even allowing for sampling errors, could the Clacton bandwagon be stuttering a little?AnatolyKasparov wrote:Labour lead went up on Friday a few weeks ago as well.pk1 wrote:Populus:

Every child deserves a great education and the chance to get on in life.
So, as part of our plan for education, we're making sure children have the best teachers - recruiting inspiring people who might not have considered teaching before but have so much to offer in the classroom.
We're working with school heads to restore discipline and improve standards - and 80,000 more children are starting secondary school with a good understanding of English and Maths than under Labour.
We're opening a record number of new schools - and more children than ever before are attending schools ranked as 'good' or 'outstanding'.
Delivering the best schools and skills for children and young people is a central part of our long-term economic plan. If you support our plan, and want to help secure a better future for Britain, donate £20 today.
Labour were in power for 13 long years - and under them, schools standards fell and youth unemployment rose.
But we're making sure young people can fulfil their potential: creating millions of new apprenticeships that allow them to learn a trade - and backing businesses, so they can create the jobs and opportunities young people need.
Thanks to our plan, the number of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) is at its lowest since records began.
We have to keep going to secure a better future for our children and grandchildren.

A quick check. It seems this is true only for 16-18 year olds, where of course the changes to the school leaving age have had a massive impact.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:So many "facts" in that Nicky Morgan email.
Presumably most are explained by the simple fact that there are more children.
But the record low NEET figure. Hang on a mo!

Labour's motion - which called for capital spending to be re-directed to areas where more places are needed - was rejected in a vote, by a majority of 96.
