From September but relevant to last night's discussion. Looks like those of us more interested in anything than in Justin Bieber's hair (bad though it admittedly is) will have to devise alternative trending services, but which people who aren't us will want to use.

It will have to be someone more technically literate than me. Obv.

The Mail have a story that a key female Kipper is alleging she was sexually harrassed by their general secretary, the same man who was suspended yesterday by the party.
He, of course, strenuously denies her allegations.

Here are details of the "roll-out" of Universal Credit
Universal Credit national expansion
Following the successful roll out of Universal Credit in the north-west of England, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) can provide details of the first tranche of national expansion to local authorities and jobcentres.
Universal Credit will roll out to new claims from single people, who would otherwise have been eligible for Jobseeker’s Allowance, including those with existing Housing Benefit and Working Tax Credit claims.
The list below is a provisional planning assumption for the tranche one roll out sites that will begin to deliver Universal Credit between February and April 2015. We are committed to working closely with local authorities before confirming or announcing further details about the roll out schedule.
Once tranche one is complete Universal Credit will be available in 1 in 3 jobcentres across Great Britain with more jobcentres to roll out in subsequent tranches until national expansion is complete in spring 2016.

Fundamentally we have no need for an army other than to defend the Falklands.

Public opinion won't let us deploy troops anyway and a small professional army with some Territorials has long been the peace time model.

Unlike advanced technology and specialists like pilots it is easy to scale up the army.

He has been described (according to the Big W) as having "slavish admiration" for Tony Blair.

Hello all.

I'm a little concerned I may have upset some people yesterday with my comments about disabled people and bus operators as I don't think I made clear that I supported the judge's verdict that Parliament needs to create a new law. Make it a legal requirement for passengers to give way if a disabled person needs a disabled space and then all private bus operators would have to enforce the same rule and bus drivers will have the law on their side and the ability to call the police if a passenger is difficult. As it is First Bus did nothing wrong from a legal point of view and because our public transport has been privatised, without new laws there is little we, the public can do about their minimal, profits before people style service.

Having hopefully cleared that up, it seems the main topic for the day is polls and how a four horse race makes them difficult to interpret. To be honest I'm surprised its taken this long to sink in that national polls in the current climate aren't very useful!

3. Sad to report that the hashtag #CameronMustGo has ceased, after about two weeks, to trend (that is, be used a lot) on Twitter in the UK. This will come as a disappointment to Miliband’s shadow cabinet adviser, Jon Trickett. Presumably it means that David Cameron may now stay.
Can someone let Rentoul know the following:

Current #1 on twitter trends in UK #BAC14 371 tweets in the past hour
Current #2 12DaysofJonesDAY9 386
CMG not trending 2,375

Presumably it means something about Rentoul's skill as a journalist.

Afternoon all
How easy or not is it to make up articles and put them on wayback machine, does anyone know?
I ask because this (link in a sec) simply does not read true.
"EXCLUSIVE: Nigel Farage explains his party’s attitude to women"
“maybe it’s because I’ve got so many women pregnant over the years that I have a different view”

http://politicalscrapbook.net/2014/05/n ... the-years/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Despite the intense scrutiny on UKIP, the quotes had remained unrepeated for nine years because they were only available in web archive out of the reach of Google

When you click into the article there is a passage that says....
UP Front: Alright then, what do you think Mrs Bloom thought of Godfrey's comment about Yorkshire women not cleaning behind the fridge enough?

That (the Godfrey quote) only happened last year, so I'm baffled as to how the interview has been hidden for nine years.
https://web.archive.org/web/20101219145 ... rectory=88" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not sticking up for Garage but I don't like dirty play in politics and find this deliberate smear - if that's what it is - a bit sickening. I would hate to see something like this done to EdM, and my own principals don't allow me to feel anything but contempt for a person who would make up this kind of thing.

Twitter Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously. The Trends list is designed to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world, in real-time. The Trends list captures the hottest emerging topics, not just what’s most popular.
Well between Dec 7 and 8 CMG was talked about far more times in one day than it had been in any of the previous 15 days. Best case scenario that's a pretty poxy algorithm.

I just sort of" stumbled "down the stairs this morning I'm bit concerned if that incurs a sanction; is there a phone number to check ?

Twitter Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously. The Trends list is designed to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world, in real-time. The Trends list captures the hottest emerging topics, not just what’s most popular.
Well between Dec 7 and 8 CMG was talked about far more times in one day than it had been in any of the previous 15 days. Best case scenario that's a pretty poxy algorithm.
If you think about what Twitter is trying to do it makes sense. If it didn't do this you would have to search through multiple layers of trending old stuff to find new stuff.

Or to put it another way, CMG isn't a trend it is now part of the established landscape.

Twitter really just needs two lists, trends and popular stuff.

Are you okay? Are you hurt? Do you need help?

edited to note - I thought you had an appointment & fell down the stairs - I think you're joking. I'm a dreadful bore.

That same Up Front interview with Nigel Farage can be found on .... the Up Front web site!
http://www.upfront-live.com/index.php?o ... =48:europe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The site does, though, look to be defunct and inactive since 2011.

So, we come back to AAW's point, how does the question about Bloom get in there?

It's not as if there isn't enough ammo on Farage that something has to be made up.
Whether the quote is true or not, something is not right with this story, I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

According to Private Eye, Twitter will happily take £30,000 to put a company on its "trending" list for a period of time.

Also - apparently, even when a hashtag is retweeted by the million, it can only remain in the trends for so long before its replaced.

Whilst I wouldn't put it past this hideous government, I don't think it is guilty of censorship this time.

No Hindle. What you have to do .... under IDS's new positive regime to prevent stumbling into sanctions is:

Pick up a card from the top of the pile marked CHANCE

Read what it says and do it. No further stumbling allowed - just do it.

As all the chance cards all say ... Go straight to jail - do not collect any money. That's what you'll be doing.

I'm adding to my own post here because I want to clarify my intention for posting. The trend in crime rate, even given not reporting crime contributes to lower crime statistics, is that the crime rate is largely going down. I know, that's a huge generalisation - some crimes are rising.

I posted what I did because I hadn't realised how expensive PCCs are.

12.4% of our Council Tax bill 2014/2015

Madness.

Agree and so do Labour, that's why they will be scraped when they win next year. :)
