Morning PFY , nice to see you
That twitter is still alive for the mom, The nutty Owner has a vote going on DJT -- it was 53-47 for reinstalling him as POTUS when I did it much earlier ...
Apparently covid is OVER, which is why John Kerry caught it at COP27, and the horrible Rochelle Walensky of CDC spent 18 days isolating/recovering recently ...
I follow a few thousand LC victims & families/carers nurses GP's specialists professors on twitter and much anger at the official neglect now displayed all over the anglosphere .
First tweet on the subject that I see --
Thread too .

Good morning.
'Er indoors is still in hospital and temperature not yet gone down below acceptable to be able to return home. Probable in until Monday now pending results.
Anyway, this is an interesting read about the PM before last's final days in No 10 - and available I think.

Re: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th November 2022
From the above...
Sounds about right.Throughout the meetings, culture secretary and Johnson loyalist-to-the-end Nadine Dorries was ever-present in the corridors of Number 10, together with Johnson’s policy chief Andrew Griffith, drumming up enthusiasm and discussing how to keep the PM in place. Not everyone appreciated their efforts. “It was blind loyalty to the PM. They were nodding dogs, completely lacking any sort of common sense,” one senior official said. Later that evening, one of the last ministers to see Johnson was Welsh secretary Simon Hart, who had waited close to five hours in the upstairs dining room. Their meeting was to prove one of the more consequential that evening.

But almost by definition the "anti-vaxxers" haven't won? Vaccines are in wide use and overwhelmingly accepted.

I think you'll find that there is less and less takeup, decreasing numbers on the boosters compared to the first two and some stocks even being thrown away . I had my second one in August, but think I'm very much in a minority , even of the oldies ...AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Sat 19 Nov, 2022 2:10 pm But almost by definition the "anti-vaxxers" haven't won? Since fewer and fewer people are masking in most western countries they have to justify this to themselves by saying they don't work, and ANYWAY the pandemic is over. And, another 'anyway', children are suffering extra RSV and bronchiolitis and flu because of lockdowns , which is highly debatable, but a very popular argument .
More to be said, answer to Gilsey, and Roger's FT too, but clouds arriving to spoil a rain-free day and must get some firewood in for increasing cold, windscreen frozen this morning ...

I think you exaggerate the decline in takeup tbh, I had my latest booster and so have most other eligible people that I know.

I'm going to watch in the hope that Qatar lose. It's not my fault some corrupt bastards handed the World Cup to a disgusting country for dirty money. Besides, watching on freeview it's not like I'm contributing anything.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Sun 20 Nov, 2022 2:09 pm Have definitively decided I'm not watching the WC after Infantino's babble yesterday.

It was a close result in the end, that wasn't really a surprise but nor perhaps was his winning it.

Bwah ha ha ha. Qatar become the first host nation to lose the opening game of a World Cup. They were truly abject, not a single effort on goal as far as I remember and most of their supporters had left long before the final whistle. I can't see them getting a single point, Ecuador barely broke a sweat. $200 billion to be humiliated. Serves the fuckers right.
I'm glad I watched it.

Perusing such as this
Coronavirus (COVID-19) latest insights: Vaccines
18 November 2022
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulation ... s/vaccines
This for example doesn't answer my HOW MANY question , muddling up percentages and absolute numbers , just random nuggets of info --
My phone app tells me that 81.9% of the total population of Normandy has had a "full schedule of vaxx", eligibility actually being from age 5 here . ( So is the 'total population' from one day old or five years ???)More than 13 million people aged 50 years and over have received an autumn booster in England as of 14 November 2022. Around 8 in 10 of those aged 50 years and over who had not yet received the autumn booster reported they would be very or fairly likely to have the booster (12 October to 23 October 2022).
Stats are Hell ! All I wanted to know is a quick answer to the situation on those eligible for fourth vaxx .... because I'm seeing a slackening even of the at-risk ancient peasant neighbours of 85yo in my immediate vicinity .
ANYWAY -- vaxxing as a unique countermeasure to Covid is really a waste of fucking time as there is mounting evidence that repeated infections have cumulative horrible chances of LC, to begin with, and also surprise strokes and heart arrests .
So mitigations such as serious testing & isolations, clean air n schools and offices, and of course serious masking still apply ...

Even if we don't go as far as "curing one's cancer by Positive Thinking" , psy approaches can quite often make some difference ...
Just getting the message out there that apparently simple shit such as losing one's sense of smell isn't a nose-problem, but a bloody brain injury, as more obviously is 'brain fog' .

Re: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th November 2022
The venue I was at on Friday to see some bands was notorious for Covid infections, the friend I was with caught it there earlier in the year, it has three stages and a main bar full of students so Covid loved it. Now they've fitted these things all over the place...
https://covid-hygiene.uk/radic8/vk401/
There were 5 of them in the main stage room that I could see so that's £6250, if they're equally spread out throughout the rest of the place they must have spent about £20000 but it was worth it, reports of Covid infections from there have dropped off a cliff.
I'm off to Leeds university to see a band next Saturday and given their track record with Covid I doubt I'll be seeing any precautions taken at all.

I'm assuming this 'Swiss style deal' has been anonymously floated to test the waters while maintaining deniability. There's no way it's going to happen any time soon unless the Tories really do have a death wish, but the fact that it's being leaked to gauge the reaction suggests the recent polling has emboldened the more pragmatic wing of the Tory party. Who knows, perhaps we could be heading for a GE where Labour end up sounding more pro brexit than the Conservatives.

Re: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th November 2022
My barely having the heating on experiment has come to an end the moment it's become properly cold.
My conclusion is yes it is possible to keep yourself warm if you're wrapped up in layers, under a thick blanket, with a hot water bottle on your chest to keep your core temperature up. It was 13°C in here last night and I was fine. The problem is you can't move. Going for a wee becomes a massive deal so you drink less, making food becomes a massive deal so you eat less. You're basically stuck on the couch as if you were in bed. And without heat your house gets colder and colder which stops things working. Most fridge freezers won't work below 11°, if the fridge is cold enough it never turns on meaning all the stuff in the freezer begins to defrost because they work in tandem (I know this from prior experience).
We've had an alarmingly mild start to November but now temperatures are getting back to where they should be I can't imagine how horrible the Winter is going to be for the countless people in this country who can't afford to turn the heating on. I was just pissing about seeing how long I could go and I'm done. Having no choice must be soul destroying. I was reading a thing about the people of Kharkiv chopping wood for fires because they had no gas. People can't even do that here. The poorest people in this country are worse off than folks at the frontline of a warzone.
All the while the likes of Shell pay not a jot of windfall tax.
If only anger really did make your blood boil then we'd all be nice and warm, at least briefly before rapidly being dead.

Ok weed enabled time to try Greenslade.
[Edit]
Hmm...interesting, the beginning sounds like the Arena music from the BBC which I know was Brian Eno who has a long history of half inching other people's tunes.

I was thinking the same about poor people here being in a worse position than poor people in some other places. I used to fondly imagine that that wasn't the case. It was possibly true for a golden period, but we're fast going into reverse. To use a crude shorthand, people here have the disadvantage of being obliged (often legally) to maintain certain standards and even to "keep up with the Joneses".
Night night.
